Charles Davis and someone else on NFL Network were conducting their mock draft a day or so ago. They had Winston and Mariota going one and two. No surprise there. But, they apparently think Dante Fowler's stock is rising as we approach the draft and have Jacksonville taking him at three. Then came the Raiders. There was some debate as to who they'd take, but that was limited to which one of the two top-ranked WRs they'd take. And that WR would be Kevin White.
Then came our beloved Redskins. Guess who's on the board? Leonard Williams. No brainer there. We take him.
Love to see this happen, but don't know if it will. Will Jacksonville really pass up on Williams for Fowler? And this assumes there's not some mock-busting trade, which could very well happen with us.
Which leads us to Randy Gregory. His moronic decision to puff on some blunts too close to the Combines has dinged his draft stock. But that might not be the only thing that teams should consider about Mr. 420 time. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller had something interesting to say about how Gregory was trained to pass rush in Nebraska. Instead of pinning his ears back and using his explosive first step when asked to rush the QB, he was asked to wait first to see what the blocker would do, and then react to that when pass rushing. Miller wondered how he'd take to what he'd be expected to do in the NFL, which would be to go balls-to-the-wall for the QB when the ball is snapped. While this may be a problem Gregory may face at the next level, it raises the issue that he still might have greater upside. If you really did turn this guy loose without having to wait, he might even be more explosive than what others have seen him at Lincoln. If so, that could add an extra dimension to his game we've yet to see. Unfortunately, there are other issues he'll have, not the least of which his lack of size and the fact that he'll probably not be an every down defender.
