New poll finds 9 in 10 Native Americans aren’t offended by Redskins name

I hope this really shuts people like Peter King, Mike Florio, and Bob Costas up on this issue. These results mirror the ones returned by the Annenberg Council's poll back in 2004. Like the Annenberg poll, the demographic splits also mirror the overall numbers, meaning that the Post's poll will reflect the will of Native Americans for years to come.

In today's society I don't think the issue will disappear. IMO if I was Dan I would just ignore it. It's hard to fight back when you don't give them anything to argue against.

Was thinking the same thing. Because im pretty sure a LARGE portion of the population Do not think its a good idea for men disguised as women to saunter into the little girls room at the local high school. But apparently there is a movement to make ALL public restrooms in schools unisex. And yes I am old enough to remember when it was cause for expulsion for a male to go into the girls restroom or vice versa.

Thing is, he cant simply ignore it. They are holding two things over his head to try and force a name change.

1. His money. The whole trade mark thing is step one in making it illegal to print Redskins merchandise.

2. Team location. DC is saying they wont allow the team a new stadium permit unless they change the name. And the federal Government is backing this as they own the land in DC where we could build a stadium. So unless Dan manages to get creative and buys a HUGE section of commercial land inside DC that the Federal Government doesnt own, and is willing to do like Jack Kent Cooke and foot the entire bill for having he new stadium built... He has got to deal with this and get the right people on his side.

Side note, the Skins back in DC is the only positive I could see from Trump getting elected. Because he would appoint people who dont care about the team name to make these business decisions on behalf of the federal government.

I completely agree. One of the strongest allies the name-change proponents have is Snyder, who can't seem to shut his mouth on this issue. What he should say is something like this: "The team doesn't believe the name is offensive and the use of the name is not intended to offend Native Americans. However, we acknowledge that some are sincerely offended by the name and we invite them to continue a dialogue on this issue to hopefully reach common ground on it."

Here's California's view on this issue, as expressed by state's civil rights agency (the Department of Fair Employment and Housing). The agency not only would require TGs to use restrooms of their choice but lockerrooms as well. So, if you're a supposed gender-conflicted male busboy at Hooters, you should now be able to change with with waitresses in the ladies lockerroom.

LOL - if they built it by the National Harbor then MGM might foot the entire bill since this will likely guarantee a ton of future business in their casino.

Honestly - to hell w/ DC. This isn't the 90s where you primarily rely on public money to build a stadium. Corporate sponsorship, naming rts, etc pay for quite a bit (FedEx ultimately paid for the entire cost of that stadium). Most folks would welcome a new stadium in MD or VA.

I work in the city and in the end it goes hand in hand but both the Nationals and before them the Caps and Wizards have benefited the city greatly by being in the city. The revitalization near both stadiums in incredible.

Good, Cali, how are you?
My DD pitched a fabulous game yesterday and beat one of the best teams in the state, so the whole family is still riding that high. I am also finishing up a big project and will be less stressed out for a few months. Plus it's sunny out, so things look pretty good at the moment!!!

Great to hear IC, all is excellent in Cali, weathers good (as always...ho hum) and I'm looking forward to some nice days at the beaches. Haven't been around much in the Cooler threads but as things really slow down before training camp, I'll drop by more to chit chat.
