The brother admitted to throwing early since Todd was yelling at him to pitch again. They were the only two jumping the gun. The brother said he was listening to Todd not the umpire and the umpire did not step in at any time. Baseball needed drama, loud stadium and a win by the home town kid and they got it. I think watching Pujols take his time, actually adjust the batting glove will show future contestants you need to take your time. But man, all those little kids out there on the grass when Pujols bottom hand was slipping off the bat was extremely dangerous.

Kris bryant was hitting some majestic shots, but this format is a line drive hitters game. Felt bad for Rizzo, usually the 4-5 matchup is the first one out, so he just swung at everything and was really rushed. Definitely better for the second hitter, so seeding based on season home runs was fair. Pederson did a great job with the short turnaround. Maybe just changing the stand up for cancer to before the final round would give them a few more minutes, but 15-14 does not seem like it needed fixing.

Great new format. The league actually did something right!

However, going second was a huge advantage. I am not sure if there is a possible fix, but that is something they should look at. Also, as someone stated, have a longer break between the semis and the final round. While Joc was amazing, he started totally gassed.

Or some would say, before. Cameras were tracking a second ball in the air as soon as or before the previous ball landed. Fraziers were cheating the clock.

I noticed this as well. No way were the umps going to call them out for it though. Not sure how to fix this moving forward. It is a pretty large hole in the integrity of the competition...

But this is an exhibition, and the Derby in the old format had become insanely dull. It needed a facelift.

I personally like it. I think the timed rounds gives the guys time to relax. I also don't think we'll see so many pitches taken as they have 5 minutes to hit as many as they can. Should make for more action during each round.

I liked it. It actually made it exciting to watch when the guys needed a homerun or two with just a few seconds on the clock. Watching them take pitch after pitch in the old format was unwatchable.

1st off congrats to my boy Todd Frazier. I played high school baseball with him. Good kid. 2nd this new format was awesome. My 1st time watching the whole thing in a long time. He was quicker and more exciting having players going against each other. I think MLB just saved the Home run derby. I think more players are going to want to do after they saw last night. A+ for MLB.

I think what they can do is let both players go and then give both players the bonus time or once the 1st player calls time out the 2nd player has to jump in. These are just ideas off the top of my head that would help the 1st guy out but again the guy going 2nd is the higher seed and should have the benefit just like a higher seed having home field advantage.
