was bored at work so i wrote this up to show what i was talking about doing if they did go drastic with changing the divisions

national american
east

boston rangers
devils flyers
islanders tampa
florida pens
caps canes

central

ottawa montreal
toronto buffalo
st.louis nashville
dallas columbus
detroit chicago

west

san jose colorado
la calgary
vancouver minnestoa
phoenix winnipeg
edmonton anahiem

way too drastic to do it but play the same numbers of games 6 for division 4 for conference and 2 for outside conference. for the most part teams dont have to travel more then 1 timezone for their divisional games...all play the same amount of west/east coast games and same for playoffs!

I've been wanting Columbus to be in the East ever since their conception.
Looks like I'm going to finally get my wish.

Pretty creative. I must say overall I'm impressed.
Also buffalo in the central is an interesting twist, it makes sense tho

So you want to put the Rangers Flyers and Pens in a different league than the Devils?

When I first saw this I thought you wanted to just make 3 10 team divisions. Which I thought was a good idea.

Yeah it would suck not seeing the rangers much but I think like baseball and football other rivalries will blossom. It would be pretty cool I think playing san Jose in the first round

What do you think of 3 ten team divisions? You could automatically take the top 4 from each division + 4 wild cards.

I think that would be a great idea as well, I posted that as my idea on the general board.

If I counted correctly, teams would play 84 regular season games.

Own Div: 4 * 6 = 24
Other Div: 5 * 4 = 20
Other Conf: 20 * 2 = 40

To me, it looks like as not a bad idea.

Yeah I got that total too. Just 2 teams wont make a visit and play once a year. if baseball can do it and football can nhl can too. Giants aren't the jets rivals same goes for Yankees mets.

I don't like the wild card idea just call it regular playoff is much better. What would the divisions look like?

Let's face it who are the Yankees number one rival? And who are the mets? Teams in their own league. Just like jets and giants.

You didnt say #1, they're both each other's number 2 without a doubt. Just like the Rangers or our #2 IMO. I care about beating the Flyers alot more than I care about beating the Rangers. Anyway, players themselves have called it a rivalry...so..yea

The Yankees #1 rival is the red sox far and away. They're competitors with the Mets, rivals isn't even the correct term. They're more like a novelty during inter league play. No one really cares who wins the inter league subway series.

In fact I care more about the Texas Rangers, LA Angels, Twins, and Detroit as a yankees fan more than the mets.

Well the Mets don't really count as a Rival for anyone because all they do is run and hide. Kinda like the Isles in the Atlantic. They're just around so people can get cheap wednesday night tickets.
