Now that you've seen 'em all in action how would you rank the following defensive rookies in terms of which ones you'd selec0t 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th if you could?

Miller
Dareus
Peterson
A. Smith

I will admit i was not a fan of Von Miller at all. I can't really say i question his toughness, but he hasn't shown the ability to play through injury at least somewhere close to the same level. Dareus and Peterson will have major improvements in their second year IMO. If i had to draft them now it would probably be...

Aldon
Peterson (Because we have Culliver. I still think he will be an elite player)
Miller
Dareus (only because our DL is more solid than the other 2 positions)

I would go this as well. Although we have yet to see what Aldon will be like as an every down player, but it looks like he is going to be a dominant pass rusher and I think that trumps any other position on defense.

Hopefully he will be ready by next season to take over full time. He's still young and his ceiling is very high. I liked the pick, but i thought we could have traded down and picked him later. Guess it's a good thing we didn't.

I should've been more clear...

Not for the Niners. Say you're starting a franchise or something. Which guy is the most / least valuable in your opinion?

hmmm well it depends on what type of Defense you're running. I don't have much faith in Von Miller as a 4-3 DE. I guess were supposing each player would fit the given system...

Peterson
Aldon Smith
Dareus
Von Miller

They are all very close though. All top 10 picks already look to have promising futures (except for Locker and Gabbert who the jury is still out on).

I still think you go Aldon. If I was picking a defense of all time greats I would probably start with Lawrence Taylor or Derrick Thomas. Those guys are game changers and you can put them on either side, stunts up the middle etc. A great NT will help out a huge deal with the run, and with a pass rush as well. CB can take out a side of the field, but you can abuse the other guy.

I would say Aldon or Dareus. Then Miller, then Peterson. Although Peterson is a great return guy too so that is huge, but I will stick with what I got.

That's good because Miller doesn't play 4-3 DE

I'd probably still have them ranked as I did before the season - Miller, Peterson, Dareus, Smith - though Aldon is definitely moving up.

I know. He was asking how we would pick him based on starting a franchise. If i had a team that ran a 4-3, i wouldn't draft Von Miller as my top pick.

Mine would just change slightly then.

Smith
Miller
Dareus
Peterson

Basically just Dareus and Peterson would change spots.

How was Peterson all year?

I probably saw about 5 or 6 Arizona games this year and then additional highlights and he didnt look that good at all to me. A lot here obviously ranking him pretty high. His return skills looked elite but thats about it.

Interesting. A lot of different opinions on this one.

Before the season I had Peterson on top followed by Dareus & then Aldon. And I'm El Presidente of the Aldon Smith fan club! But after what he's shown in just an uncanny natural ability to get through an O-line I'm gonna have to put him tops on this list. He has the potential to be as good a pass rusher as Demarcus Ware! Based on the percentage of times he rushed the passer versus others I wouldn't be surprised if he got to the QB at a higher rate than anyone else in the entire league!

Aldon could be one of those guys for whom an offense has to change what they do. That's an extremely rare commodity.

Aldon
Peterson
Dareus
Miller

Nothing agaisnt Miller, but these are all going to be great players. A DL of Dareus' caliber is more valuable than a probowl 4-3 LB (even if he's as good a blitzer as Miller is). And I still think Peterson is going to be one of the 2 or 3 best CBs in the league. But I'll take one of the 2 or 3 best pass rushers in the league over an all-pro' CB (or close to it). I know Peterson struggled as a rook, but I'm pretty sure he's going to be a pain in the ass for many year to come.
