The Pirates' Notebook column in today's Trib includes a note from ESPN and the Elias Sports Bureau: NEVER BEFORE in the history of MLB has a team been 16 games over .500 after 108 games and finished with a losing season. Only twice before has a team been 16 over after 108 games and finished at exactly .500.

So..... unless a near-miracle happens, and the Pirates win at least 6 of their final 9 games..... this year's collapse will go down in history as one-of-a-kind.

Pirates notebook: Late-season plunge under .500 quite rare | TribLIVE

Didn't our epic collapse of last season have some random odd significance like this as well?

i think last year was more like the Bible.
as last year was like a prophesy of what was to come.
like the dream that joseph interpreted for the king of the 7 skinny cows that would swallow up the 7 fat cows foretelling the 7 years of plenty followed by the 7 years of famine.
our skinny win column cows swallowed up our fat, 16 game above 500 cows and our 20 year famine continues.
where is our deliverer. do we have any players that were born in
since our scouts/player development people seem misguided, mayber we should send them all to bethlehem or nazareth. PA to find our deliverer before we have to suffer 400 years and a bunch of plagues.
actually, we have been through plagues of meares, derek bell, losing aramis, that pitcher we paid 10M for a couple starts, whoever that knucklehead gm was, plagues of historic and seemingly endless proportions......

wait, i saw a star in the East. it's huge .... i can't stop following it. it leads right to ......
you fill in the blank. who is the franchise savior? is it cutch, cole, polanco, a scout, a manager, .....
