Didn't get to post much during the games yesterday as i wasn't home but what did you guys think of this critical call against the saints?

Bad call. I guess the official thinks he comes with the right arm or shoulder to the head area but he missed.

Looks like a bad call to my understanding of the rules.

But it is a worse play by Roby.

It looked like he intended to commit a personal foul and missed.

I disagree. That’s a hard thing to project based on what we know. The ball goes to the edge and turning it up could get the receiver a first down. He’s trying to keep him from turning up the field. You could say he was throwing caution to the wind but it’s a reach to say his intent is to attack the head.

I saw it when it happened, I think they missed the call but it wasn’t that far off. Just have to assume they are going to err on the side of caution now days.

Plays like that should be automatic review from the refs. Treat it like scoring plays.

I was being a bit sarcastic.

But it was a terrible play.

His head was down, didn’t wrap up.

Obviously nobody is going to ever try to commit a personal foul on a tackle, but with where he launched and how he launched, it was either going to a personal foul or a whiff.

In this case, he actually did both.

And as we all know, officials are being instructed to legislate these types of plays out of the game. Which is why I think it was called even though he barely made contact.

Head was down, he led with the crown of the helmet.

Having said that, it was a glancing blow and he didn't actually connect with the crown of his helmet.

Where they messed up, imo, was calling it unnecessary roughness. Hard to have unnecessary roughness on what was essentially a missed tackle.

You could make a case for targeting (although that play was more like "attempted targeting") because of the positioning of his head. But, as I said above, it was a glancing blow.

They could possibly justify targeting because there was helmet to helmet contact and part of the reason for the rule is to protect the defensive player from neck injuries. It would still be a bit of a stretch, but it would have been a better call based on how I've seen it called (which has been inconsistent at best).

He led with shoulder whether the intent was there or not. It was a missed call. The refs don't know the rules, plain and simple. Gotta be consistent, did he lead with his crown or not. He didn't, so it isn't a foul. Pretty simple.

He did lead with the crown though. He just didn't connect. Part of the reason that targeting would have been the more correct call is that it would have automatically been reviewed and the call could have been reversed. You don't get that automatic review on unnecessary roughness.

The problem in Denver is they hired Hackett because they thought they were going to get Rodgers.

That didn't happen and RW isn't Rodgers so Hackett has to switch things up and cater to RW's strengths.

Well it’s not looking great at the moment, we will see if Wilson can regain his form.

It's not even about him adjusting to having RW. He just looks like the job is too big for him right now.

There have been some pretty head scratching play calls, a lot of penalties, etc. It's a lot of "procedural" stuff they need to clean up.

Having said that, some of it does fall on RW. He's a 10 year veteran and while it's not really his style, he needs to overrule his coach by audibling out of/pushing back on head scratching play calls and decisions.

He gets mentioned among guys like Brady, Manning, etc.. They would have no problem overruling the coach, especially Manning...RW needs to do the same, especially with a rookie HC.

Exactly.....he should have told Hackett to go for it on 4th and 5.....not kick a long ass FG.

TB, Manning, etc wouldn't have let their coach settle for a long FG.
