The one bad move the Lightning made this offseason was dropping Nate Thompson. He was a great fourth line player for five years, checking, grinding, grit and a touch of scoring. Always gave 100%.

Well Nate speed and effort will be missed but Boyle is a good replacement, Boyle is considered an upgrade. For what Boyle lacks in speed in comparison to Thompson, he's harder to play against and adds much needed size and physical play upfront. Boyle is also considered a good player in his own zone, good faceoff guy and good penalty killer. Boyle is also a better offensive player when you look at the stats, both have played 391 games and Boyle has 52G 48A 100P, Nate had 39G 46A 85P. I did like Nate but it's hard to argue that Boyle isn't a upgrade.
