It they can throw out records and leave out an undefeated team why leave out Georgia? There's no doubt they're one of the 4 best teams.

Why even play the season at all? Let's just put USC and Colorado in the playoffs too, if we're ignoring the records on the field?

It really is as simple as that you can not make a case that Alabama is not more deserving than Georgia after Bama just beat them in the SEC champ game.

But you also can’t make a case that Texas is not more deserving than Alabama because of their head to head win.

It is that dynamic that made it so tough. Had Alabama lost to anyone other than Texas, Georgia gets in over Texas. But that is the way it played out. If Texas>Bama and Bama>Georgia then it has to be Texas>Georgia.

There is literally no shred of evidence to suggest GEORGIA is better than Michigan/Washington/Texas and especially Alabama.

Plus, The committee has always stated they put extra importance on conference championships.
That is the one single tangible point they always reinforce. Everything else is vague, but conference title games for the last 10 years.

Georgia literally has zero position to gripe.

Michigan took a pretty big screwing lol. They lost out on a cupcake win over FSU without their QB and ended up getting an in waiting ass kicking

It would be pretty shocking if Bama stomped Michigan. They played well yesterday. They also needed a miracle to beat Auburn last week. They are not some juggernaut. Michigan has won all but one of their games by double digits and has yet to be behind in the 2nd half of a single game all season.

Should be a pretty good game.

I doubt it. Texas won the Big 12. Georgia did not win the SEC. They both had one loss.

Gots to take care of Biz a Ness.

They didn't
Georgia was screwed by the refs in the SEC Championship.

A blown call at the end of the 1st half gifted Alabama a 1st down, which led to a TD. It was a (at least) 7 point swing in a very close game.
No way a non conference champion was getting into the playoff this year.
Perhaps.

Underneath all the talk is the fact that the SEC is the strongest conference, though. (And we can't close our eyes to the fact that FSU is down their star QB)

Given what went down yesterday, I can concede the top 4 probably worked out as 'fairly' as it could, though... in virtue of their ref-assisted win, Bama got in over FSU... which shouldn't be a big problem because Bama is almost certainly a better team than FSU sans their top QB.

Committee confirms that SEC plays by different rules than everyone else.
Nah.

The SEC is the strongest conference in college football. If a representative from their ranks didn't get in, it would be every bit as 'unfair' as excluding a FSU team without their star QB.

The end all be all was always undefeated conference champ. They did away with it to shoe horn in for the SEC.

SEC is not the strongest, it is the most top heavy. And neither of those 2 teams put in a resume worthy of going.

Screwing over an undefeated team because a player got hurt is absolute garbage. FSU got fucked so the committee could lick Alabama's nuts

UGA has gotten their fair share of blown calls, so there's no reason to point to that as the reason they lost.

Hold up.

Which is the strongest conference, then? Be specific.

:pop2:
I think it is dependent on the year. Outside if Georgia and Alabama no other team in the SEC would dominate any if the other conferences.

SEC is inflated by 2 programs almost every year. Occasionally a third will show up for a year or 2.

ftr: I was just talking about this year... because the overall issue we're discussing is the playoffs this year.

The SEC is the strongest conference in football this year. I don't see why that fact shouldn't matter too.

1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. Bama

5. Georgia 6. Florida St 7. Ohio St 8. Mizzou 9. Oregon 10. Penn St.

Florida St is not one of the Top 4 teams in the country without their starting QB and that has been proven the last 2 weeks
Agree they aren’t but they went unbeaten in power five. Its a damn disgrace you let not one but (2) 1 loss teams in over them

They are 7-9 against other power 5 conferences this year. People only think they are the best this year because they do every year.

Yeah, the SEC argument is more of a legacy thing this year. Bama in the first half of the season had a lot of issues on offense. I think most people thought they'd take 2 or 3 Ls but they turned things around.

My issue here is that while they might have picked the 4 best teams, they did not pick the 4 most deserving. Does anyone think that the committee would've picked Missouri if they were in this same spot? I don't.

^ this is a fair point... IIRC a lot of these lost games were towards the very beginning of the year.

Looking at records and rankings at the end of the year, I think my point holds up.

I would not argue against Georgia or Alabama from a talent standpoint, this vote is supposed to be about who earned it. An undefeated power 5 has earned it. screwing their season because an injury happened in football is asinine.
