Need to work on balancing the quality of your divisions. So massive differences.

Any P5 teams get left out?

I took a run at this years back so the data is a little old but took like a 10 year winning percentage and tried to balance as much as possible while maintaining as many traditional rivalries as possible.

This was a six conference scenario with relegation. 8 team playoffs with round robin conference champs and 2 at-large teams.

I think you could easily move Georgia from the South to the Atlantic. The state touches the Atlantic Ocean, so it wouldn't be a stretch. I don't know who you would trade them with. I wouldn't call anyone in that South division their rival expect GT and maybe Auburn. Florida (who is in the Atlantic) is really probably their biggest rival and more of a rival to Georgia than Alabama or LSU (of which they only play during the regular season about once every 5 years).

I like that it is geographically split up, but in my opinion:

* The Northeast is awful.
* The Mountain is awful.
* The South is overloaded with good teams.
* The Midwest is pretty bad.

I think it may look better to split it into 12 groups, rather than 8. Although you may still have the same problem until you branch out a little bit outside of geographic location when determining placement.

Read this on USA Today...today.
"The idea is back in the news, however, as the slide deck for the proposed league was leaked to the media earlier this week. It includes its new structure for the sport: regional conferences. You know, how college football used to look before billionaire executives wanted to sign larger television contracts."

>>West (10)--Arizona, Arizona St, Cal, Oregon, Oregon St, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington St
"So, in essence, just bringing back the Pac-12. This thought will be expanded later on in the piece, but the existence of clear, regional conferences would be fantastic news for the sport. Getting to that point is the challenge, especially breaking away from the NCAA. But fans of college football should hope that a 10-school Western division exists in the new model."

>>Southwest (10)--Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech
"Bringing back most of the old Southwest Conference, which folded in 1996. It would keep top rivals together plus re-start the in-state rivalries between Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor. Again, this would be a positive development."

>>Plains (10)--BYU, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, Wisconsin

"The ‘Plains’ name would take getting used to. The conference importantly includes Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. Iowa State, Kansas, Utah and Kansas State would be seamless fits. I wouldn’t be quite sure about Colorado and BYU.
There’s no perfect model. But at least Wisconsin would return to playing programs with similar geography instead of programs like Oregon and USC."

>>Midwest (10)--Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan St, Missouri, Northwestern, Ohio St, Purdue
"The best part about these proposals is how clear today’s insane structure looks. Missouri would fit in well with other Midwest schools, as well as programs like Iowa State. Making the sport more geographic-based is only a good thing."

>>Northeast (10)--Boston College, Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn St, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, VA Tech, West Virginia
"Some of these proposed conferences would only have a few power programs each. But if that means the high-stakes games don’t come until after conference play, I’m all for it. This conference might be the weakest of the seven — which makes sense given most of the recruiting talent doesn’t reside in the northeast."

>>
Southeast (10)--Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami, NC State, No Carolina, So Carolina, UCF, Wake Forest
"This conference would be quite the sight as half of the conference battles to recruit the state of Florida every season anyway. Joining the state of Florida into one conference would be the best thing any new league could do."

>>
South (10)--Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, GA Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Miss State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
"As always, I kind of feel bad for Vanderbilt in this football environment. But if the sport gets shaken up, the South can still form the country’s most dominant conference. We just wouldn’t have to also punish programs elsewhere by making them play in it."

>>
Under Division League (10)--Boise St, James Madison, Liberty, Miami (OH), New Mex St, Toledo, Troy, Tulane, UNLV, UTSA
(Note: This division would consist of 10 teams rotating annually with a promotion and relegation model)

"Not only would most programs across the country get a chance at relevance, but there would be added drama at this level to see which program stayed on the top tier. Again, lot of work to do before any new shift in the sport. But a movement to this 70-team structure would be welcome."
