From what I understand: (Recounted by my dad's friend Brad)

Todd and John got into a feud over the "beatles are bigger than god" comment. Todd responded with this song that satirizes the whole "free love" "flower power" movement lennon was apart of:


(At the end of the song after that, you hear someone say "Don't you think about anything but sex?")

They traded insults and such back and forth for awhile.

Anyways, the guy who killed Lennon was apparently a huge Todd Fan... They found AWATS and Todd Rundgrens Utopia among a few other albums strategically laid out on his bed.

On the day Mark David Chapman shot and killed John Lennon, he left an eight-track tape of Rundgren's album Runt. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren, along with other artifacts, in his New York hotel room in an orderly semicircle on the hotel dresser. "I left it as a statement, I guess," he was quoted as saying in Let Me Take You Down: Inside the Mind of Mark David Chapman, the Man Who Killed John Lennon (Jack Jones, Villard Books, 1992). Chapman had been obsessed with Rundgren and told Jones, "Right between the chambers of your heart is how Rundgren's music is to me. I cannot overestimate the depth of what his music meant to me."
