What is up with Martin Perez? 31-year-old, 11-year mediocre journeyman is suddenly a lockdown ace? 8 consecutive quality starts of which five were ultra quality starts (7+ IPs, 2 ER or fewer). In the 10 years prior, the guy only had one season when his ERA was lower than 4.38.

1.42 ERA this year and has not given up a single HR through 10 starts. Mariners face him tomorrow.

With a robot calling balls and strikes, Julio would have about 30 strikeouts instead of 63. Umps are really giving him the rookie pay-your-dues treatment. And Kelenic would probably still be on the big league club instead of in Tacoma.

Here is a weird pitching stat for you: Last year Austin Adams threw only 53 innings and hit 24 batters. I keep thinking that has to be a typo but...

Last night both Gilbert and Sewald got really hosed by bad calls. It's just atrocious all around. Didn't end up costing the game, but you shouldn't need 4 strikes to get outs.

Really hard on sliders. Umps just can't consistently find the corners on balls with movement anymore.

I saw the Rangers catcher in the 5th or 6 inning frame a pitch for the umpire and the ball bounced on home plate !!

That tells you how the catchers feel about MLB umpires! hahahaha - He was trying to sell him on a strike call on a pitch that bounced infront of the plate !!

What do you guys think of the idea of trading for Willson Contreras? I know he's a free agent after the season so I wouldn't make the move unless the team plans on re-signing him, but I floated the idea during the offseason and feel like our season would look a lot different if we had his offensive output at catcher.

I disagree that 5/75 isn’t fair. I am just saying I think his agent might want more (his job) but I also don’t think France would want to buy out his first two years of FA, with how the organization is going. But he also doesn’t have any leverage since he isn’t going to get $50 million through arbitration. But then again, I haven’t read through the new CBA so no idea if arb is much more player friendly….either way the Mariners should buy out his arbitration. Like I’ve said, the organization is poorly run or at least is perceived to be and buying out his arbitration is an olive branch to other agents letting them know their clients can come to Seattle and not get nickel and dimed. Seattle still doesn’t have an income tax, Bellevue has the highest income per capita outside of D.C., Seattle shouldn’t be a hard sell. Seattle, sports wise, is in a much better situation with financing than where they were with getting Cano and Cruz. Point is, they shouldn’t be getting outbidded.

Jerry set this to be the season and it is going to be another season sitting on the outside. There “improvement” was Ray, Suarez and Winker. Ray hasn’t been an ace, Suarez is a poor man’s Seager and Winker for 99% of the time is just a dude. Like I’ve said, way too much pressure on JRod, Kelenic and Raleigh to all pop at the same time. But as usually, Kelenic goes to Tacoma and is way too good for the PCL. Problem I have noticed it he is so much more aggressive with the Rainiers as opposed to the Mariners. If he does come back up they need to pull a Willie Mays Hays on if he gets to two strikes he has push-ups to do.
