Completely nerd related and way off topic but how come pretty much everyone agrees the decade starts with 2010 but you always get people jumping on you about the millennium not starting till 01? seems inconsistent.

Football decades have always been from '90-'99, or '00-'09 and so on.
Only ass clowns want to belabor the point.

And those people would be wrong.

Based on the calendar used today, the second millennium AD began January 1, 1000 at 12:00:00 am and ended December 31, 1999 at 11:59:59 pm. The third millennium began January 1, 2000 at 12:00:00 am.

The current decade began January 1, 2010 at 12:00:00 am and will end December 31, 2019 at 11:59:59 pm or sooner due to Armageddon.

Only two of those teams have NCs. SO do not feel too bad.

Since there was no year zero in the current calendar does that mean there were only 999 years in the first millennium or what? The first year was 1 AD, thus the the current millennium started Jan. 2001 when we count from the first year. But a decade is really just any ten year period and a millennium can be any 1000 year period. Also don't forget the adjustment made to the calendar in the 1700's because of leap year errors... :D

Since all of these descriptors are relative there is no wrong way to look at it. The Gregorian calendar is a reform of another calendar and has been modified as it is.

We all celebrated the new millenium dec '99 just because. Is it technically correct in terms of days from the start of that otherwise arbitrary calendar? No, but that's not what they were celebrating.

No one alive today cares about when the thing started or how many times it was modified.

I guess there would be a couple ways to look at it, but to me, we consider the 21st century to be the 2000s because 20 centuries had already passed and the 21st began in 2000. 20 centuries= 2000 years.

Now granted I'm not taking into consideration 'adjustments' due to leap years.
