I don't understand why Joe Corvo can't seem to stick with a team for very long, he has good offensive skills and is a great skater, does his defensive game suck that bad?

Yes. He was as bad as Green was in the playoffs the whole time he was in Washington. And he only scored 6 goals and 8 assists in 52 games all year

not a huge shocker, except for maybe Walker

I'm still surprised he sat in the pressbox all playoffs. Why pick hm up at all?
he may be older, but he's just a warrior... built for the playoffs.

problem I think for Bruce would have been choosing who to sit insted of him. But Flash would have been an option

Ugh... I don't like B. Mo. leaving. He was great this year, plays both O and D well and we have a real lack of depth at the center position. He was pretty cost effective as well. I don't really get that. They seem to like Belanger so much better, but I don't think he's any better defensively, and they never score when he's on the ice... and we're talking about the Caps here.

Corvo and Walker.... peace. Won't miss them much.

the caps really do lack center depth.. from what i've seen from belanger (i must admit its not a whole lot), he is not a 2nd line center.. i'm not real good on the caps cap (haha) situation, will they have room to sign a legit #2?

nhlnumbers.com Team Overview

they could, but they have a lot of tough decisions with only 13 players signed for next year, and only 6 for the year after that.

Yes, they do. This coming season they have options, but 2011-2012 is going to get a little tougher. It will be tough with Carlson & Varly likely getting legit contracts. Thanks goodness they are playing for less than a million this coming season.

I'm still a proponent of trading Semin simply b/c I don't think they can afford him in 2011-12. I think they should move him now to free up cap space, maybe bring in a better defender or center, and give them more options. IMO, he's gone after this season, so take advantage of his value now. He's a 40-goal scorer at $6 million with Kovalchuk numbers (almost identical this past season in every way). Trade him and bring home some defensive depth or a center and draft picks.

Btw, the numbers on that site are somewhat off. Nylander no longer counts against the cap and the amount towards the cap is wrong. This site is more accurate, but is not as updated...

Pick your poison I guess.

nylander is shaded on the hockeynumbers site, so the non-cap thing is addressed.
i trust that site a heck of a lot more than hockeybuzz (plus I don't like to give traffic to ecklund.
the only other one I treat as close to gospel is CapGeek.com - NHL salary cap calculator, buyout calculator, free agents and more!

Nylander's salary absolutely goes against our cap this coming season. The transfer agreement with Grand Rapids was only a one year deal. Another agreement will have to be in place to free up that cap space. It was band aid move not a total heal. Still want to sign Volchenkov to a 4 or 5 year deal???
