To this day, though, I still HATE the ending. I understand it is ridiculous Monty Pythons, so it fits, but I never liked it.

Then Blazing Saddles had to copy the ending.

2 of the greatest comedy movies ever with the same HORRIBLE ending.

I love seeing viewer's reaction to the ending that aren't expecting it. Kinda shifts the whole movie to a LARPing live performance lol.

I reference that movie all the time.

RUN AWAY!

K-niggets (have to be careful with that one)

I fart in your general direction.

It's only a model

and on and on...
I'm not dead yet

Tis but a scratch

But I'm INVINCIBLE (the whole Black Knight scene)

Well, I could stay a little

Oh, she turned me into a newt

It's funny how one can recite movies or skits or songs that may even be 50 years old, must have been a helluva impression,
This movie has a certain genius in comedy, I love it. I too can recite the movie. I think it's a masterpiece. Along with Blazzing Saddles it broke open humor at the time. I will watch it over and over but ya have to have that brand of humor in you to enjoy it.

There were a few good laughs but much of Blazing Saddles is pretty tedious.

It's not just the material. The Pythons deliveries were absolute perfection. John Cleese voice change from "None shall pass" to "you yellow bastard". Graham Chapman's "What are you going to do, bleed on me?" Michael Palin saying "well i could stay a bit longer" after the oral sex penalty. Even Terry Gilliam at the Bridge of Doom.

"Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.... You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ’cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!" - Dennis

Oh I'll agree but at that particular time, dry humor and a little slapstick ( although the autumn years of that style ) was successful. I think if you see it too many times, it might wear on you and you lose the initial impact. I love both movies but I also thought One Flew Over The Coo Coos nest was hilarious instead of dark I guess the laugh is in the listener right?

To think the budget was skeleton compared to today, I think they did real well,
Hard to pick a favorite scene with all the humor but I have to say the Killer Rabbit was gold. Tim's explanation of this foul rodents temper was extraordinary How they were able to withhold a laugh is beyond me,

IMO it's the funniest movie ever made. Have to have seen it over 50 times, and I still find little things that stand out, or are funnier in different viewings. Out of context quotes are a daily occurrence.

During the witch scene, go back and watch how Eric Idle has to bite his prop to keep from laughing out loud next to John Cleese.
