All I know is that's the LAST time I listen to a F'n beat reporter over my own gut. .I'd rather be wrong on my own!

Montee Ball was the first player mentioned by Peyton Manning when he addressed the running back position in Denver's offense.

Manning didn't mention Ronnie Hillman or Knowshon Moreno.

This is the misleading stuff, thrown in by a reporter trying to give his blurb more zing. Peyton was talking about first-year players, not "addressing the running back position."

And I think we can all put to rest the notion that being "named the starter" has any meaning at all in a muddy backfield situation.

which is why I am having a hard time buying in on D Rich for STL. Just can't see a multiple game stretch where he gets over 60% of the carries for the team. Maybe in week 1 with Pead suspended, but if last night is foretelling, Ball may take a few weeks before becoming a consistent producer

I also think A LOT of last night was personal for Peyton. He was pissed that they didnt win last year, he was especially pissed that his INT set up the winning FG. I did think that BAL would make a game of it though, and they grossly disappointed in the 3rd qtr.

Couple things I saw from Montee..
His 1st 2 runs were pretty good. .and unlike what Will saw, I think he showed very good vision on those two. The third was piss poor blocking, doubt AP would've gotten yardage there.

As for the final two "drives" granted he didn't look great at all...BUT.. the objective was to simply go forward, not loose the ball, and not go out of bounds. He didn't try and get cute by bouncing outside, he showed smarts by simply plowing into the line. . which by the way, he usually showed decent power. . but anyways. .those are some positives in my mind..it ain't much, but its a start

I think they did make a game of it, for as long as they could. This is gonna happen to everyone who plays the Broncos. After a slow start last season, they won what, 11 in a row before letting Flacco bomb them in the playoffs on basically their last chance? Now they've added Welker? I'm sorry, but I see this kind of nastiness coming up all season. You cannot cover 3 guys...and if Julius keeps it up, it's 4 major threats in the air... and you can't drop 8 back, (well I guess you could, but even Peyton would stop throwing then) so someone will beat their man, and Peyton will find them.

As far as Ball goes, you got it Will, it all depends on how much of a studier he is. He easily looked like the best pure runner of the three (probably because he is), so at some point talent will win out.

Revisiting. Ball didn't show much, but on the other hand the coaches seem to be willing to give him plenty of chances. How much will Moreno's success this week hold Ball back?

Enough that I'm strongly considering dumping him.

I'll rephrase to what I think is the more appropriate question:

How much will Ball's GL fumble AND Moreno's success hold Ball back?

I think it holds him back a couple weeks, or at least until Moreno gets banged up or botches some plays of his own. Ball is a big strong RB though, so when its clock killing time, he will still get some touches.

It does not change his value... Denver is not ready to use him even if he did not fumble... But remember as this season goes on this offense is going to get tired... and since they are definitely the cream of the crop, they will want to run more, they will want to establish their running game before the playoffs.. Ball is a sit now, but dont drop him, he should be a second half stud...
