How do we do this and what's to stop a team with huge cap space to take him ???.... there will be a team I'm sure kirk agent be like hey kirk skons will give u 16 mill a year but team A has 50 mill in cap space and they might offer you 20-24 mill a year so hold off till free agencie to sign a deal I bring this up because I think we could still lose him a small chance but who knows. And I'm sure he will be highest free agent on the markert and how much is kirks franchise tag worth I'm guessing 20 to 24 mill so fuck franchise tag

The way you do it is you first determine what the value of KC is to this franchise. This includes his estimated current market value plus replacement costs, lost opportunity costs and continuity costs if we lose him. You run all these numbers to come up with his market value to the Redskins. In theory, KC should be worth more to us than any other team for there is a value in continuity and no training curve. It is my opinion that his final value to us will be closer to $20M with incentives than $16M. Those that believe no one will sign him for this range given his lack of a long term track record doesn't study history. It happens almost every year and at just about every skill position. The history of the NFL off season is rife with over aggressive signings based on a small sample of work. Sometimes it works out and sometime sit doesn't. But this does not deter a desperate team looking for a QB (or WR, olb, lt, CB, etc) from being signed at what is then an aggressive deal. History always repeats itself. Oh, and when we do sign KC to a long term deal (which I predict we will), by the 3rd year of his contract, his deal won't seem that aggressive. What SM will not do is be penny wise and pound foolish. There are only about 12-18 consistently productive QBs in this league and there are 32 teams. So we all know what that means. Those 12-18 are worth their weight in gold (literally).

Here is tannehill deal: 5/18/2015: Signed a six-year, $95.272 million contract. The deal contains $45 million guaranteed -- an $11.5 million signing bonus and each of Tannehill's first four base salaries. 2015: $745,000, 2016: $9.34 million, 2017: $17.975 million, 2018: $17.47 million, 2019: $18.725 million, 2020: $19.497 million, 2021: Free Agent

That would be a good deal for KC

Do you know, is there any outs for the franchise after a few years? This probably is a good basis for negotiations with KC. The real unknown is how much KC wants to stay here and if he is willing to offer any home team discounts. He may. I have to believe he feels a big sense of loyalty to Gruden as Gruden stuck his neck out, and his job, for Kirk.

I don't know Jy19. I do know KC has the Redskins by the balls. We should be thankful if he signs this type of deal.

Actually 2016 is the last year the Dolphins would HAVE to hold onto Tannehill because of cap implications. If he is released in 2017, it actually saves them $10 million and some change.

I have said quite a few times, Tannehills deal isnt what screwed the Dolphins 2016 cap.... King Kong Suh's deal..... lets just say I heard banjo music as he was signing it.

we will have to pay above franchise tag money for a long term deal

i expect 19 -20 mil as the FT

that is what you are looking at

the next question is who you bring in if you let him walk

if you cant answer that then you already know what will happen

A player who is given the franchise tag basically receives the average of the top five salaries at his position. For Kirk that would be 21.5Million. (Rogers,(22mil)....Wilson,(21.9)....Big Ben,(21.850)....Eli,(21) and Cam,(20.8). As Dad said, any long term deal starts at that average.

In addition, there are “exclusive” and “non-exclusive” tags. The former keeps a player from negotiating with another team; the latter allows him to try to work out a deal with another team. If he is allowed to sign with the new team, his former team receives two first-round draft picks. That’s fairly rare; four teams used it last year.

A player who signs an exclusive franchise tender cannot negotiate with other teams and has until July 15 to negotiate a new, long-term contract with his present team. If he and the team cannot reach an agreement, the player plays the season under the tag. Honestly what would be the benefit for Kirk in signing this sort of tag?

There’s also something called the transition tag, which is worth the average of the top 10 salaries at a player’s position or 120 percent of the value of his 2015 salary (whichever is higher). Players with the transition tag can negotiate with other clubs, but their original team does not receive draft picks if they cannot match an outside offer. Too risky for the organization to try this, he could get paid elsewhere under this scenario.

All three carry the risk of having a unhappy player because in the first instance he goes without any guarantees and although handsomely paid for that year risks maximizing his earning potential. The other two options are detrimental to one side or the other and really not worth considering.

What happened to in SM we trust? If he walks, (and I'm sure that SM has already considered that possibility) odds are there is a plan forming or already in place to do what must be done. For those who have the mindset that this guy or any guy can't be replaced, I'm sure that Dad's question scares the bejeebus outta you. One of the reasons that I have personally not let this season's performance sway me and just looked at the guy for what he actually is....is because, I can see him being replaced easily, by a whole host of guys who will be available and has similar abilities or better than he to perform in this offense.

Been there done that with regards to comparing Kirk to his skill level contemporaries, but for the sake of this conversation and in keeping on topic, let's say that Kirk chooses to go elsewhere, do you really believe that SM won't find or don't already have a few targets in mind? His track record this season alone tells us that, QB will be no different.

If not then pretty damned close. There's a reason teams never let a QB they want walk away. This deal will get done amd it will be expensive. Team has a lot of cap space but this along with retaining players like Knighton, Gallete etc it will be interesting. I have absolutely know idea what a guy like Galette will command, maybe just another cheap "show me" deal?

Oh, I believe he has identified every potential replacement if we lose KC and has ranked them and attached value to them. I seriously doubt he has any of them ranked above KC and none that can come in and pickup where KC left off if for no other reasons than the learning curve of the offense and the continuity KC has developed with his receivers.

KC isn't going any where. The decision is one Snyder will be involved in, and rightfully so. We've seen the importance the Redskins place in the QB position by what occurred with RG3, they were willing to sacrifice their future for him. Paying KC 20-22 million is a drop in the bucket to keep him here with that mindset.

KC just keeps adding to that next contract value. A couple of those throws today were as good as they get. Whoever said he doesn't have the arm strength to make all the throws hasn't a clue about evaluating talent.

This is a tough situation even though right it seems like a no-brainer due to the Skins hot run and Kirk's play. But we've all seen this before. QBs can go on a hot streak like this and it turns into fool's gold. Look at the run Nick Foles had a few years ago with Philly for a very recent example. It's hard to forget he was probably going to benched if he didn't turn things around vs Tampa after halftime. This is a guy that coming into this season had highest INT rate of any QB in the NFL. Each situation is different, so hopefully Kirk is more substance than streak and he's truly turned the corner. Problem is how do you determine what to pay to find out.

I hope Kirk realizes he has something in Washington that might not transfer over to another team that could throw money at him like Cleveland. Will Kirk and his agent take a "show me" deal as a slap in the face?
