Redskins need to shake things up - Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog: Redskins need to shake things up - Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog

Excerpt

On offense the Redskins need to become more run oriented in their approach and not get too cute with their play calling. Alfred Morris is a true bell cow back, and needs to be heavily relied upon this season. He's the best player on the offense and who the game-plan needs to flow through. This will remain true when RGIII comes back from injury, as Morris can be the guy to take pressure off of Griffin (who likely won't be 100%). To not be getting Morris the ball 20-25 times a game is basically giving a free pass to the opposing defense, who is going to be the most fearful of Morris beating them each week.

Now the excuse always comes up that the game situation will dictate how much the Redskins are passing. He's the thing if they are running more early in the game, then perhaps they won't be in so many situations where they are behind in the 4th quarter and don't have a choice, but to throw the ball. By admitting that you are letting the game situation dictate your play calling, you are admitting that you are letting the other team dictate how the game goes for you. Which speaks volumes of where this team is overall. Good-to-great offenses rarely have to "change their game plan" or "abandon their strength", butt the Redskins seem to have to do it 75% of the time.

#Redskins mailbag: Sifting through the wreckage from the loss to the Giants Redskins mailbag: Sifting through the wreckage from the loss to the Giants - The Washington Post

Excerpt

As far as your question about Tyler Polumbus … Believe it or not, Morgan Moses and Tom Compton are not better options. They’d be playing if they were. Coaches have said both publicly and privately that Moses and Compton each have a long way to go, and I’ve also seen them repeatedly blow assignments and one-on-one matchups in practice drills. Any errors that Polumbus commits come not from a lack of understanding or effort, but instead from physical limitation. Coaches would rather have a guy out there knowing what he’s doing and giving his all than they would a kid who isn’t technically or fundamentally sound. So, the coaches stick with the veteran and try to find ways to compensate for any shortcomings. In the meantime, they continue to work with the young tackles so they can eventually develop into dependable options.

I agree we definitely need to run Alfred Morris more, we need to do what the Chargers did to the Seahawks and that is ball control keep their offense off of the field and use up a lot of the clock..the key on defense is going to be stopping Marshawn Lynch and containing Russell Wilson.

Watching Brian Orakpo for a WaPo piece this week. Had him with 2 mild pressures on 33 rushes...

So w their two roster openings, Redskins add help on special teams (Sanford), and corner (Crawford, who can also play teams).

Zac Boyer

The two players offer help in the secondary, and Crawford on special teams. But following Gabe Miller's release on Thursday, OLB is thin.

I agree. We played this style vs the Eagles and it was effective. However there's two area's you are missing and that is silly unforced TO's and bad ST's play which are momentum killer's.
We need improvement here in these 2 area.

As far as the DEF well we will that alone.

It is incredibly frustrating to see the TOs and ST fails. As well as getting exposed in the secondary....again. Feels like Groundhog Day, no matter what we seem to do.
