If you were a valuable member of a team that had a valuable assignment for a particular project, it would be tremendously poor form to walk out in the middle of the project. This would be the case if you were a doctor, an engineer, a teacher, or any other profession. He dedicated himself to filling a valuable role with a team in 2013 -- There are only 53 spots available and when you keep one guy you release the next most qualified who may then be picked up by one of your competitors. When you quit in the middle of the season, you cause a dip in productivity/knowledge and you hurt the ability of your now 'former' team to perform their jobs. It's not okay and we shouldn't applaud him for doing it.

Perhaps he should have waited until the end of the season. I can agree with that. However, it is uncertain whether or not he was going to be in and out of the lineup with lingering injuries and how much he would have contributed anyways. Perhaps he was close to going on IR, I have no idea. Just saying, you can't fault a guy for seeking other opportunities in his life. If he was healthy and starting and then just leaves, that is a little more wishy washy and should not be applauded. In the offseason, go for it though. Any information on his health status in regards to the injury reports and what not before I judge him as harshly as you?

Right, back in the day kramer1 walked up hill, both ways to school, in year round blizzards after breaking both legs bucking bales. We get it, everyone is some pansy because they are not you. Meanwhile, there are billions of other people that would call you a pansy because you have clean water and HVAC system.

Good job generalizing an entire generation based on the actions of a few. Take some advice from my grandpa. Take care of your business and don't worry about what others are doing, it isn't your concern.

After the season is an entirely different story.

As for whether he was going to play.... If he wasn't going to play and was going to be placed on IR, then I think he's just a moron for throwing away cash. Guys that get placed on the IR can basically stay home the rest of the year.

Maybe he didn't believe in stealing cash? haha I don't know.

Kramer is probably the youngest crotchety old guy on the planet.

If he doesn't want to play football then he doesn't want to play football. Who the f*ck cares? Barry Sanders quit. Jim Brown, the greatest player in League History, quit too. Was Pat Tillman a pussy for quitting football to go serve his Country? Absolutely not! Some people have interests other than football. After watching Early Campbell hobble around on a walker due to Years of abuse I feel someone should have spoke with him and talked him into walking away early. No one has to wake up with the aches and pains that he does and if he doesn't want to do it anymore then that's his prerogative

Each of your examples retired.... They informed their teams AFTER the season that they would no longer be playing football. As I said, repeatedly, I have no issue with retirement after the season.

Leaving your team high and dry in the middle of the season is another story altogether.

C'mon, "high and dry"? The guy's played 9 snaps all season and all of them came in a blowout game they won 52-20.

He was traded by Seattle to Denver 2 weeks before the season started in exchange for a guy that initially was on Denver's practice squad. Let's not get carried away.

Should we be surprised. We've allowed this nation to become a nation of entitled babies. If you don't like what you're getting, instead of working harder for it, just quit and find someone else who will just give it to you.

If you don't like your wife anymore, instead of trying to work things out, just quit, and find someone else (preferably younger and with a nice sized rack) :)

It doesn't help that the government turns this nation into entitled pansies who can get money for not working and creating reliance on subsidies and welfare as opposed to actually working.

But, I digress....

Seems good to me.

I'm not carried away with anything.... I don't think it's a kosher move for an NFL player to retire in the middle of the season. Denver traded a prospect for the guy and gave him a roster spot. Presumably over other players that were also under consideration. And if I were a future employer, I would certainly take notice.

Now you're playing the other side of it. First it was implying that he was an invaluable member of the squad and he's leaving them "high and dry". Now it's that he was a prospect and Denver is losing out on one. But would he not also be a prospect in February? But you seem to be okay with him walking away at that time.

Denver lost NOTHING for Moffitt. In fact, Moffitt was headed to Cleveland the day before Denver, but failed a physical there. The next day he was headed for Denver. Furthermore, the player Denver traded for him is sitting on Seattle's practice squad, so he can be had by Denver at any time. So again, Denver lost nothing for him.

The fact of the matter is he was not an integral part of Denver's roster, so not only will they not miss him, they will not miss a beat. As far as "prospects" go, 10 weeks into the season, unless you're getting meaningful snaps, you're an afterthought. Walking away now versus in February makes no difference.

Finally, this cannot be compared to a normal work setting. In a normal work setting, people do not risk their bodies nor their future health for their "assignment". He has every right to walk away from an "assignment" that may cause him to be mentally damaged in the future, and he should be supported for it, which I'm sure Denver does.

As I said before.... I think anyone included on the final 53 has been deemed an integral part of a team. Try reading Rey.

I read and understood it just fine. And I made my case for why he isn't despite being on the final 53.
