I can't wait for the draft! Every year I like to put together a mock draft for fun, thought I would share it with you guys for some critiques and discussion. It will be 3 full rounds with predictions for the Cowboys 4th and 5th round picks. I'm pretty sure most of my picks will be dead wrong, so feel free to fire away if you have better ideas.

Here we go...

30: Green Bay: Benardrick McKinney, OLB/ILB, Mississippi State

I assessed team needs based on a combination of players currently under contract for each respective team and prospect rankings. I have done my best to remain as impartial as possible with each selection. Round two on the way...

I think he is stiff, imo. I honestly don't like either prospect. I think Goldman in the first depending on whom is there with him and if we do an AP trade or not. Imagine a OL of Hardy, Crawford, Goldman, DLaw......would go from one of the bottom in NFL to one of the tops in a matter of a year, not to mention LB's of Lee, McClain, and Hitch we'd have one of the best front 7's in the NFL.....this would really help the secondary imo.

You may not want to start that conversation, but it is absolutely relevant. If Dallas is given the choice of Kevin Johnson and Marcus Peters, I think they go with Johnson. If Greg Hardy was not signed this off season, I could definitely see Dallas drafting Peters instead. Peters is the better player, but I don't think Dallas (Garrett) wants to bring in too many questionable characters at once.

It would help, but it wouldn't change the fact that Dallas' secondary as presently constituted is garbage. We need talent back there. No more kicking the can on this issue. The D-line will be much improved with a more experienced Lawrence, and Crawford to go along with the addition of Hardy. We still have Mincey as a very valuable back up, as well. Hayden, will do for another year.

Doing this mock draft, I was surprised to see how many teams need offensive line help. After reviewing each teams current depth chart and who they have under contract for the next few years, I am pretty confident that we will see a ton of lineman go in the first few rounds.

The RB's will probably start flying off the board in the late 2nd early 3rd rounds.

All in all, I would be pretty happy if Dallas could manage

1: K.Johnson, CB
2: Randall, S
3: D.Johnson, RB
4. Parry, DT
5. Green, OT

Can Duke handle the workload as the primary back? Obviously he wouldn't be touching the ball 250+ times but can he be trusted as our main guy?

Hard to say, but I think he could be a solid contributor. Johnson is a versatile back who can play in the pass game.

I would probably rather Ajayi in the second round at Dallas' pick, but I am reading that Dallas really likes Demarious Randall and it looks like he could potentially be there when Dallas drafts. Might finally get a real Free Safety after all these years...

Give me CBs. The best one that is there. If they deem Peters better than Johnson, I want to take Peters. I notice you have Ifo going 75 th. Is he struggling with his rehab.?

I would be pretty happy with either Johnson or Peters, but I have to think Garrett wants his type of guy. Johnson fits that bill more so than Peters.

I know there was a lot of hype around Ifo pre injury, but he is a smallish CB coming off a major injury -- I'm just not as high as others I guess. Maybe I dropped him too far due to injury?

No I knew he was falling. Last year at this time he was projected to be a top 10 pick but things change. I want him to fall. I know Dallas really liked Mitchell from Oregon last year- he just wouldn't stop committing penalties so they let him go. This guy is a lot better than him.

As far as Peters- usually players that challenge coaches about certain plays and schemes have a high football IQ. Now I don't know Peters story, but I don't mind players that have a little nastiness to them- like Scandrick. He isn't afraid.

Not sure, but we should be rotating any way. I'd be all for Johnson.

Did we have a friendly wager about Dallas taking RB in the first 2 rounds?

You declined, If I recall correctly.

Just the way the draft fell in this scenario. Hearing that Dallas is really high on Randall and the only logical place to select him is in the 2nd. Ajayi could be the pick, word is they really like him too. It's just there are more good RB's than Safeties.

As much as I like Peters, I'll trade his marginally better talent for Johnson's better attitude
