My favorite old player to draft - don't worry guys he's not on my list this time (so feel free to take him) - is Bill Bergen. Dude was a great defensive catcher in his time (1901-1911) and there's still some out there that opine that he's the greatest defensive catcher of all time. Which is awesome - since he reached levels of offensive ineptitude that may never be matched. He's the only person I know with 3000 ABs and batted .395 (OPS) for his career, leading to a 21 OPS+. He's so much fun to draft as a late inning defensive replacement!

That stat line is atrocious BUT if you go to career assists (Bergen is #9) Everyone else played 15+ seasons while he only played 11. VERY impressive.

I mean he only played 947 career games but had 1,444 assists.

Everyone else ahead of him or even in the top 20 played between 1,200 to 1,700 career games.

I've always wanted to draft Steve Dalkowski - dude averaged 14.7 K/9 from 1957-1961 (16.6 BB/9)! Unfortunately, he never got his pitch under control and never reached the majors.

Opponents couldn't hit him - but he was known to give up 4 runs in an inning just by walking and hitting batters. Ted Williams said he had the fastest fastball he'd ever seen, and he never wanted to face him again (during spring training).

Why intentionally walk Ruth, just bring in Dalkowski and plunk him with a ball traveling at 115 mph!!!

I know, I love the dude! I'm the only one who's ever picked him!!!
