Oh.
No.
Sale 2.01 ERA 130 IP 150 SO's 91 Hits 0.885 WHIP 197 ERA+
Kluber 2.46 ERA 171 IP 187 SO's 148 Hits 1.072 WHIP 151 ERA+
And No.
Richards 2.54 ERA 159 IP 157 SO's 112 Hits 1.015 Whip 144 ERA+
Zimmerman 2.92 ERA 144 IP 130 SO's 146 Hits 1.154 Whip 127 ERA+
I like Kluber better because he's a better innings-eater in addition to being able to limit runs. His delivery is also easier on his arm, which makes him less of an injury risk. Sale's a tremendous pitcher, and his swing-and-miss stuff is better, but Kluber's skill for pitch economy is elite. Of course, Sale has a better track record (Kluber's first full season was at least effective, though, which is an important note to make for consistency with the below argument), so I suppose he is the better pitcher overall.
Richards is having a better season this year than Zimmermann, but this is Richards's first effective season as a starter, after two seasons struggling to stick as one, while Zimmermann's been doing it for four years now. Full body of work, I think Zimmermann has been pretty clearly a better pitcher than Richards to this point in their careers. There's a lot more certainty surrounding Zimmermann.
Actually, going by this year's numbers, Kazmir has been better than Bumgarner, but Bumgarner's been more consistently effective throughout his career.
