That's not what you proposed at all. You said you get so many points for picking a team in the right spot, then less if you are off by 1, even less if you are off by 2, and so on. Picking the top seed and picking the 4th seed would be worth the same amount of points, unless I read something wrong.

We could do some sort of top 8 advance to the playoffs and we predict winners and scores in the playoffs...

This is probably the best bet, I just dont like the scoring

Thing is, if you pick the top seed should that not be rewarded more than picking the correct 3rd seed? This is why I like my points system.

That why you have to narrow things down.

1st you go over ever entry 1. Who picked the most correct teams into the playoffs. 2. From there you narrow it down to most division and WC correct. 3. Then you add up record wise who was closest.

I would be suprised if it was more than 5 to 6 teams after that. But tiebreaker could be what you suggest. You have a playoff prediction for the top 8 to 10 teams. (You could do it week to week in an elimination format.) Then if it comes down to a Super Bowl, closest score wins.

I'm telling you with so many teams there would be a lot of ties. There are literally only like 8 or 9 teams per conference being picked and people are predicting records that are all about the same.

Like I said with 5 or 6 teams this would work but we are probably going to end up somewhere in the 30 - 40 teams range and I don't wanna run into where we have 13 people tied.

I don't wanna change the rules later.
