1. Stetson Allie is actually hitting pretty well so far this year. He's got a strikeout rate close to 30% which will need to come down but he's also got 3 homeruns and an OPS north of 1.000. Interesting guy to watch.

2. Josh Bell is starting to show us his stuff too. He hasn't demonstrated power like Allie yet but he's striking out less than Allie and he's really still only in his first month of professional ball.

3. The entire Altoona Curve team is interesting but Adalberto Santos and Andrew Lambo are the best performers so far if you don't count Taillon who has apparently been filthy through his first two games and has the stats to support that notion.

4. Cole has been a little sketchy but I think that's how it'll be with Cole. He seems to overthrow. I think the best thing for him is to get him as much experience as possible.

5. My boy Rinku hasn't pitched yet this year. Sore shoulder I hear. He's not much of a prospect but he is supposed to go up to high A and I think that's pretty awesome considering his circumstances.

6. Polanco has done alright but Hansen has struggled. Plenty of time to get that straightened out but I like to see prospects who aren't struggling. Oh well.

7. Tony Sanchez sucking. Alex Dickerson doing alright. Zach Van Rosenberg is terrible. Alex Presley (remember him?) seems to be doing pretty well at AAA.

The only thing I would add about Hanson and Polanco is that this is the first time either has played in cold weather. Last year this time even though they were in WV, it was a pretty mild spring. I don't expect either to struggle for much longer.

I really can't believe how well Allie is hitting, I'd love to see a scouting report on him.

seems like he will be in bradenton soon.
that would be great if he can get to altoona by end of year if he is the real deal.
taking 1.5 yrs off to focus on pitching, then coming back so quickly and being really at age level as he settles into bradenton would show some nice promise.
maybe we have something here as far as a 1B of the future with actual power.

i saw a report that says now that interleague is everday, we are only a couple years from the NL going with the DH. this would help our plethora of none power 1B types we are accumulating prior to Allie.

That's super fast, I'd be happy if he got to Bradenton with a 850+ OPS.

Just checked Allie's slash line..... he's up to .396/.444/.792/1.236. No one is more surprised than I am by Allie's hitting so far. I read something just yesterday which reported that he's been working hard on his defense at first base, as well. That's good news.

Stetson Allie went 4 for 5 with another homerun giving him 6 on the year and although he's striking out fairly regularly he's actually gotten his rate down into the mid 20s and that's not so bad all things considered.

Tony Sanchez hit a homerun and has his BA up to .276 on the season.

Alen Hansen is committing errors all the freaking time.

Gerritt Cole had a pretty nice outing aside from 4 walks.

Not sure, as Illinest said he was having trouble with errors. I could see them sitting him down a few games.

Yep, I still think he is going to be a solid player.

Taillon didn't have his good stuff today and still battled to give up only 2 hits and 3 or 4 walks in 7 innings. I really like the fact the the Pirates are letting him go this year. He threw 101 pitches, noly 60 for strikes, but like I said he didn't have his best stuff.

Yeah so Allie was 1 for 2 with 2 BBs today. No homeruns but he got on base 3 of 4 times. Hard to complain about that.

Apparently Sickels noticed what he's doing and made a joke about it, then he said that he thinks Allie is for real and promised there'd be an article about it soon.

Stetson Allie could move up very quickly as a 1B. Not much to work on defensively. If he hits - he moves.

Taillon isn't going to finish the season in the minors if he keeps throwing the ball this well. There's no way you can keep him in AA past June if he keeps kicking ass, and then if he's in AAA anyways then he's a candidate for a september call-up.

Heard someone saying that Cole was pissy about being in AAA. Can't say I blame him. I didn't question the source - just one of those things that you hear sometimes.

Heard the same thing but by the looks of start #3 he realizes that he has some stuff left to work on, he didn't just get sent down because of service time.

Only 2 weeks in and there are a lot more positive showings in our kinor league system than there are poor showings. Hanson must be a headcase right now, his defense is so poor it is affecting his hitting.

Stolmy Pimentel- Anyone know his history. I had assumed that he was a throw in in the Hanrahan trade, but his stats are awesome ( one run in 30 innings as a starter ).

He was once one of the Red Sox top 10 prospects, but had 2 sub-par showings at AA. That is the main reason he was added in the trade. Last year after finally deciding that his curve would never be even an average pitch, the Sox switched him to a slider. His numbers really started to improve after that.

Currently though, not all of what you see is skill, there is a lot of luck involved. He has always had trouble with walks, and this year is no different. He also has a very low BAA and a very high strand rate.

I don't want that last part to detract from how dominant at the AA level this year though. His talent level right now is well abovee tha of the batters he has faced and should be in Indy soon. There the BAA should normalize and the walks can be worked on at any levwl.

thanks for the specifics,

I should add that this is his last option year so he is likely to be a September call-up to see how his stuff plays at the major league level. He has zero chance of making it through waivers so next year either he is at the major league level or he is with another organization.
