These rosters do not appear ot be 100% accurate, but they are a starting point.

Fresno

Roster | Fresno Grizzlies Roster

A whole bunch of new guys to the org in Fresno pitching staff this year. No one to get too excited about, though.

The hitters, though, are a different story.

Chris Stewart (did anyone else notice that he made the 40-man??) looks to be the starter with Williams as the primary backup. New addition Dashenko Ricardo is the 3rd catcher. This is a 20 year old kid, whom I assume the Giants picked up in one of the rule V drafts. His stats do not look very good, but a 20 year old Dominican Dandy could end up being a coup.

Crawford and Noonan are not listed on the roster, but I assume they are here. Gillaspie, Pill, Rohlinger and Burriss are all listed as on the squad. I am guessing that Noonan and Burriss will sharetime at 2B and Crawford will get the bulk at SS. Gillaspie SHOULD get the bulk at 3B, but I would not be surprised to see Rohly get some time there as well.

The outfield has Neal, Ford, Graham and Copeland. Not sure why Copeland is still with the org.

Richmond

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/documents/2011/04/02/17283802/1/RFS_-_Opening_Day.pdf

The pitching staff looks pretty good... Maday, Tanner, Surkamp, Verdugo, Stoffel, Matos, Otero, Fitzgerald. That is a pretty talented group for AA.

Behind the plate, Monell moves up to Richmond to catch these guys and will be backed up by Lowenstein. Nice couple of guys there to keep an eye on. Monell could be pushing for a cup of coffee by the end of this year. He should push Whitey off the big squad next year (unless he is involved in a trade sometime this year, which is a big possibility).

We got a minor league FA to play 1B (Joe Koshansky) who is a HR or nothing type of guy, but he has MLB power. I seriously doubt he is anything more than a filler, though. If he were a real flier, he would be in Fresno. Culberson is at 2B and Schoop at short. I wonder if they intend to have Noonan repeat AA and rotate him and Culberson between 2B and SS? I have always heard that Schoop is not a prospect, so there is no reason to protect his playing time.

The outfield is pretty interesting. Kieschnick repeats AA, McBryde is demoted (pretty much cements his status as org depth) and JC Perez moves up to AA. Kieschnick and Perez are definitely guys to keep an eye on this year.

San Jose

Roster | San Jose Giants Roster

As always, SJ has the most interesting and exciting roster in the org. The pitching staff will have spot lights on them the whole season. Wheeler, Gloor, Marte and Hembree continue their progression, and Main and Correa try to make the org look good by trading for them.

The catching corps is stacked!! ToJo and Hector Sanchez!! I would not be surprised to see ToJo moved to 1B, but both of these guys are full of potential and could be BIG parts in trades to really help the big club out this year or next.

the infield has a few guys to keep an eye on as well. Dominguez at 3B and Jurica at SS could prove to be big additions to the org with good years. Dominguez is probably in a make-or-break year. Cavan, Liles and Anders have potential, but I do not see them as much more than org depth.

The Outfield. Um, ok, I am excited. Brown, Parker, Fairley and Lollis. Brown could be pushing Torres next year. Parker could be pushing Huff in '13. Fairley, if he "gets it" could be pushing everyone, he is that talented. Lollis appears to be a solid guy who could go either way. This is a talented group of guys.

General notes...

Where is Brock Bond? Where is Brandon Crawford? Where is Rafael Rodriguez? Where are the Dominican Dandies Sundrendy Windster and Carlos Willoughby? Noonan and Adrianza are hurt (Noonan only a couple weeks away and Adrianza a couple months away).

Dominguez, Main, Fairley, Noonan and Gillaspie are all battling for their major league baseball lives this season, so they really should be fighting hard this year.

Good stuff Cal.

I'm going to keep a strong eye on AA and A+ this year. In AA, I will look for Kieschnick to bounce back and show that 09' wasn't a fluke and show off his 5-tool skill set. And this is a big year for Culberson, if he can have a good season, sustaining his power and improving his defense I will really believe in him as a prospect. The ballpark is so tough on hitters and the weather can get nasty, there is a lot going against them down there and when hitters succeed, it sorta marks the point to where I start believing. Same goes for Perez.

I have a question. Any reason that Tanner is repeating AA?

As for A+, you're right, looks like another exciting championship caliber squad down there. Lots of power with Joseph, Parker and Dominguez, a very athletic outfiled and that catching tandem like you said is one of the best. I'm picking Fairley as my sleeper prospect this year. He started figuring it out at the end of last year and has some serious tools. And don't forget about Jose Casilla.

Any thoughts on how the rotation will shake out? I'm going to have to catch a few games this year and would like to see Wheeler.

Also, for the younger guys, RafRod, Windster, Willoughby wouldn't they be in low A ball? Or were they there last year?

And where did Peguero go? I'm assuming he'll be in AA.

He had knee problems according to KNBR, chose to get them fixed sooner rather then later. He will be out until May or June.

Other injury notes they mentioned: Brandon Crawford fractured finger from a bunt attempt and the pitch came in on him. Adrianza tore a ligament in his finger in a spring training game stealing a base.

You are right about RafRod. For some reason, I thought he was in A- last year, but he did not make it that high. If he starts in A-, that would be fine (and still early, since he is is only 18).

Willoughby and Windster are both going to be 22 this season. It is time they get thrown in the fire. I wonder if either of them are really prospects. Willoughby in particular has been tearing up the Dominican leagues for a couple years now and was only been invited to the US for the first time this past year. I would think that is late for his numbers. Windster has done well as well, but Willoughby is the guy I have had my eye on for a couple years (a speedy 2B with high OBP).

I had not heard about Peguero's or Crawford's injuries. We are gettign beat up at SS this season with both Crawford AND Adrianza going down. I think it puts pressure to see if Noonan or Culby can make the switch, or if Burriss can find his bat.

I have not heard anything on Tanner and staying in AA. Personally, I am not super-high on him anyway. I hope they are trying to pad his stats for a potential trade. Maybe package him with Nate for a legit prospect?? Package him with RoRo so they do not have to eat as much contract? the prob with him is that he carrys with him a 40-man spot. That, unfortunately, brings a prospects value down quite a bit.

I really can not tell you what the rotation will be in SJ. At this stage in their careers, anything can happen. The only definite is Wheeler will be there.

Another note...

Apparently Drew Biery is getting moved to catcher!?!? I do not understand this move. The org is STACKED at catcher, why bring one of our lost-souls into that mess? Based on this, I will assume his D was bad.

Anyone know anything about this?

I may be one of the few on here with this feeling but while reading that my thought process was that of a girl trying to learn all the rules of football.

I understand that our catching position is stacked (Posey, Joseph, Sanchez, Williams) but I have no clue what else you mean. Who is Drew Biery?

LOL

Biery is a young 3B who apparently has a lot of tools and is/was a sleeper prospect. To move him away from 3B (an organizational position of need) to catcher (an organizational strength) is puzzling.

He struggled at San Jose last year after winning MVP in SK the season before. My speculation is they are grooming him as a super sub back up for 1B,3B and C to save spots on the 25 man in the future.Hopefully he hits enough to be a solid MLB bench guy.

I follow all of our minor league affiliates almost daily checking box scores to see who is hitting and who isnt.Hadnt heard about Crawford's broken finger /sigh.Any word how long he is on the shelf? After last season's broken wrist,he cant afford to miss much more time.We need his defense in the majors now.I am very interested in how Culberson,Crawford,Gillaspie,Keischnick,Jurica,Brown,Parker and Jones do this year.I am quite positive that after Sandoval shows he will never have any plate discipline,we will be looking once again for a long term answer at 3B.Culberson is my odds on favorite for replacing Freddy Sanchez. And 3 of Brown,Parker,Jones,Kieschnick,Peguero and Neal will be taking over the outfield in the next couple seasons.

I think the following are pretty sure bets to make the major league club:

1. Wheeler SP
2. Brown CF
3. Culberson 2B
4. Neal OF

in that order.

After that, it's a dice roll...Adrianza, Noonan, Kieschnick, Peguero, RafRod, AnVil, Gillespie, Crawford, Jones, Parker are all question marks.

According to Bobby Evans, the AA staff is Tanner, Verdugo, Maday, Surkamp, 2 others. The closer is Stoffel

The San Jose rotation is Wheeler, Main, Dunning, Heston, Martay, Westcott. The closer is Embree.
