Were the players just not that good??? Is this an aberation of getting used to new teammates and new systems? Are they all just on the downward trend?

To MIN (not including Coyle and 1st Rounder):

Heatley: 82GP - 23G - 30A - 53P (prorated)
Setoguchi: 58GP - 16G - 10A - 26P (prorated)

To SJ (not including 2nd Rounder)

Burns: 82GP - 13G - 19A - 32P (prorated)
Havlat: 48GP - 4G - 24A - 28P (prorated)

Wow, a lot of money owed to all 4 and none of them are truly living up to their contracts.

Didn't envision these trades going down like so (besides Havlat eventually getting injured). I know Minny has been ravaged by injuries lately, but Heater and Seto weren't exactly tearing it up even with a full lineup. Havlat is injured (everybody surprised), but even when he did play, he couldn't score to save his life.

*I do like Brent Burns, but not for $5.67 cap hit. He is mobile, can make a good lead/first pass, and can play physical, but I don't think his offensive game fits what the Sharks have in place.....a lazy team who doesn't go to the front of the net to tip in shots or screen the goalies.

Player by player.

Havlat: Needs to be healthy and comfortable in a system; expect a big playoffs or big 2012-2013 from him

Burns: A weird guy who was a bit like a yo-yo even in Minny. He'll be good for 2 years and garbage for one is my prediction. Also is a guy who thrives on big minutes and being the guy. Sightly overrated and overpaid but far from Gomez-esque. He's still the most useful player in this trade all things considered.

Heatley: In decline. Period. Has become increasing one-dimensional offensively and doesn't have the wheels, or the will, to get to the spots he needs to for his style of play. Motivation and conditioning, or rather the lack thereof, are slowing this guy down. Plus, he likes to snort coke off Jstew's vitello marsala. THAT'S ALWAYS A BAD IDEA.

Setoguchi: Streaky; he'll bounce back to a degree. He should be a 20-30 goal scorer for most of his career.

Sharks win the trade now and in the future.

Probably several factors at play here, filo...Injuries have definitely taken a toll on Havlat (not to mention karma, as I dislike how dirty he can be), but some guys sign a big money long term deal and their compete level goes way down. I think that is the case with Heater (and why I was so happy that Rene Bourque was dealt, as he was getting lazy and stupid).

I haven't seen too many Sharks game this year, how has Boo-urns played?

lol, does he still do all this stuff JStew? I mean that you've heard rumors of? I know he and Ray Emery were known to do some nose candy back in the day, but I never heard of any issues here in SJ. Then again, our hockey media is about as soft as a Shark.....er Flower down here.

I hope you're right Kenny. Congrats on the win last night, your boys deserved it. Sharks with another ho-hum effort after the first 10 minutes.

I like Burns, he just seems like a $4million player right now (or at least for how the Sharks utilize his Offensive/PP talents.....which is probably not fair to Burns). In fairness to him though, he's gotten much better defensively, is good with outlet passes and is very mobile. I don't think the Sharks are a good fit for him style-wise due to the fact that the entire team (save for half the 3rd and 4th lines) are afraid to go to the net. He has a big shot and another weaker "get to the net" shot that are great, but there's nobody in the goalies sight lines on the PP (as Jumbo is stationed permanently at the half boards looking for a slam dunk pass) or even near the front of the net to tip in his shots. I think that has been the main reason for his offensive drop off. Overall though he's played pretty well after a rough first month.

Doesn't this part really depend on Coyle and the 1st, let's see what happens with those. I think Coyle could end up being a pretty darn good player

Correct. I was mistaking those pieces as coming in a separate trade. Coyle and Phillips (I believe he was the pick) are nice potential pieces for the future.
