When you enter the league you must be aware this is a job/business and at times, if you enter your feelings into the business side of things your feelings can be hurt. If you have a great agent, this all can be handled by your agent by keeping your personal (player) feelings out of the business side of negotiations. It is usually the STARS who have to negotiate larger second contracts and by doing so, I would think the STAR status would also require team leadership requirements, organizational requirements and community requirements. It all comes with the territory I would imagine. If you want the sack ($), you have to give back. You've made some excellent points about leadership but I wonder if the organizational approach to doing business is in effect causing the players to also take a business approach in doing their jobs. This translates into a willingness to play but not take on leadership roles, public relations efforts and the like. Contract negotiations are like bright sunshine where both sides reveal exactly what and how they feel about one another. Sometimes people harbor lingering ill will even after the ink has dried and will make it a point to simply do their jobs and nothing more. Let me know what your thoughts on this perspective happens to be.
