For much of last year I thought Grigorenko had the best NHL upside in the draft. There were questions about his work ethic and mental toughness. To me those are probably just symptoms of being 17-18 years old and ~8000 km from home.

I've watched a few games of this kid's, including once in person, and he's got great mitts for a guy his size.

There were comparisons to Malkin (with Yakupov being compared to OV) but those are off to me. Malkin is more of a slasher-type when attacking. He hits holes and uses his size and explosiveness to get to scoring areas.

Grigorenko reminds me more of a player like Jason Spezza. Creative, big, with great hands and tremendous vision.

I think the Sabres got themselves a player.

That's funny when you consider the fact that the Sabres have tried to trade for Spezza the past couple of years now.

On the flip side, it looks like Girgensons is having a tough time in the AHL this season.

Dude, believe me, I'm so bummed that he's struggling like this. I thought for sure he was going to tear it up in Rochester.

And to think people said after the draft that Girgs would most likely be ready to play in the NHL over Grigs.

That's what you do when you try to trade for him and can't. You draft him the next time.

It's why the Jackets got Johansen.

18 years old is too young for the AHL in 99% of the cases, IMO. It's a physical (perhaps moreso than the NHL), men's league.

Girgensons should have gone the college route for at least a year. Nonetheless he's gonna be fine. I watched him at the world juniors last year and he's a tremendous player. I don't think he'll ever be a huge point producer as a pro but more of a top-notch 3rd liner. I wouldn't worry if he's not producer as an 18 year old in a stacked AHL this year.

I think the reason Grigorenko dropped in the draft was mostly due to his performance in the Q playoffs last year. In the 2nd round he went head to head with a 16 year old MacKinnon and MacKinnon outshone him. Grigorenko's Remparts choked away a 3-0 lead and the Mooseheads upset them. Grigorenko was invisible most of that series, especially the last 4 games that the Mooseheads won. It was later revealed that he had mono during that series.

It seems it it easier to score in the Q however?

The top 20 scoring leaders all have 36 or more points in about 25 games played.

I'd hate to look at the leading goalie in that League.

I think the thing about the Q is that it always seems to be a very top heavy league. Each year there always seems to be 3 or 4 dominant teams out of 16 that just destroy everyone they play except each other. Their average score is probably something like 7-2 in their favor, it would probably be better than that but that includes games against each other. I bet most of those top scorers also have ridiculous +/-, as would most of their teammates, including those without that many points.

Of the three, which one seems to be the most well run? Is there one league that most supporters feel is superior?

I have never paid as much attention to the CHL as I have this season, and I have to admit, it is just as entertaining to watch/follow as the league which shall remain nameless here

There is very little bullshit after a clean hit, crowds are energetic and it's always nice to see a young kid play the game trying to make a name for himself.

In short, I dig it. The lockout was good for one thing

Yikes, I think Etienne Marcoux's stock just rose up.

Fucale is a lock to be a 1st round pick in 2013.

To me the OHL may have been a bit more ahead of its time than the others, for better or worse.

David Branch (commish of the O since 1979) was, and is, very pro-active on matters of player safety.

After 30 games, he now has 29 goals and 21 assist for 50 points.

He's 1st overall for goals and 4th overall for points. The leader is Josh Currie with 52 points.

For what it's worth, Josh Currie has been a nice little surprise for his team this year but he is 2 years older than Grigorenko. In my opinion the top 4 players in the Q in no particular order are Huberdeau, Grigorenko, MacKinnon, and Drouin. I was lucky enough to see all 4 of them live this weekend. Here's some highlights from last night. No shortage of Grigorenko content in this highlight package.

Wait, he scores the 1st goal of the game 40 seconds into the 1st period, and the crowd throws bears on the ice?

What happens if he scores another goal?

Hahaha! It was Teddy Bear toss night. It's a tradition most teams in the CHL have around Christmas time. They toss Teddy Bears on the ice when the home team gets their 1st goal and they are given to the poor kids or something like that.

Oh, well I guess that makes sense and all. I was hoping they would throw mini unicycles.
