There is no doubt Mike McCoy is a genius of sorts - especially as it applies to football. He created an offense for Tim Tebow on the fly, installed it and ran the team to a 2nd round of the playoffs. Then, Mike McCoy overhauls the offense for PFM - and now the offense plays at a hair trigger tied to PFM's observation of the defense after the team breaks from the huddle.

This year's challenge is to key up an offense that could accentuate Lynch or an offense that will accentuate the skill of Trevor Siemian. It figures with Lynch - you would want to spread out the field - so Lynch had better opportunities to tuck it and run and with Siemian play it in tight - use play action and execute flawlessly for success.

I thought it was interesting in the latest batch of Vance Joseph quotes. That he was preaching attack offense all the time - in all situations. Under Coach Fox - the Broncos famously with PFM at QB - would deliberately run out the first half clock - instead of trying to get into scoring position. McCoy caught flack for those decisions (although - I think Fox was involved somehow). To have VJ chanting attack offense as a meme - is reassuring to me (at the moment) that the Broncos will aggressive go after points. No question Mike McCoy is an offensive genius, but does he have the guts to call the plays when the game is on the line. Remember - the Broncos famously came back against Mike McCoy's Chargers after being down 24 points. In that case McCoy's offense just sat on a lead - until it was gone. Attack offense - to me - means even three TDs up don't let up on wanting another TD - ditto until your 35 points up or more.

It was McCoy's offense in 2012 that came back against Norv Turner's Chargers after the Chargers led 24-0.

LOL - my bad.

No biggie.

I think McCoy was a brilliant hire to lead the offense and even though we don't have Manning anymore I think we're going to see something similar to what we had in 2012. Perhaps not as explosive, but a unit that can reliably put up 24 or so points. You couple that to the defense this team has, and augment offensive scoring with the occasional defense/ST score and you have a contender.

The great thing is both can throw a pretty deep ball, something PFM struggled with here. Might even be more accurate as well.
