So what are your thoughts on how Collinsworth gushed about Mike Brown, that he let him take law school classes instead of showing up for some practices, about how Brown treats his players like family, and goes out of his way to make sure they are taken care of, that Devon Still couldn't be with a better organization when it comes down to whether the organization is going to help with his daughter any way they can, etc?

I mean, it could explain some of why we are able to keep a lot of our star players for salaries less than they may make elsewhere in the league.

Thoughts?

It's never been an issue of him not liking players and taking care of guys who are loyal...the problem has always been his reluctance to accept that the NFL was modernizing how it was run. He was so set to run the team like dear old dad that he barely acknowledged Free Agency was a real thing until the mid-90's, and that you couldn't run an organization with the equipment and fields they had like they did in the 60's...

You're a liar.

Not sure what you mean since it was an opinion. I didn't state it as fact, only that it could be possible and requested feedback from others. Too bad you are a piece of shit and holding a grudge for all that you have. I mean seriously, not sure what the F I did to you personally, but you should let it go, you will live longer.

PS..Palmer still sucks ass.

Players don't take less just to stay here.

We've done a very good job of signing players to deals before their contract years -- Leon Hall, Geno Atkins, Carson Palmer, Vontaze Burfict (allegedly). They have to take less than they would make if they were an unrestricted FA, but they buy a little security.

For those that have made it to FA, we've done less well. We lost J-Joe, Michael Johnson and Andrew Collins. We were able to keep Rey M. and Tits M, but both players would have left if they had more value on the market. I was impressed when Reggie Nelson re-signed because I thought he had some options.

Make no mistake.... Players sign for money or security. Some vets might take less money to stay with their team and not move their families, but I don't think there is anything unique about the Bengals that would make someone want to stay.

I have 2 words for you

Rey Mauluga.

There is no team in the league that would make him their starter except this one.
The people working the front office here are delusional and incapable of taking emotion out of their decisions. It will be another 20 years before the Bengals get back to the superbowl.

We never really pursued Johnson...they just pretty much let him go. Yeah, they made an offer or two, but it was never serious.

Who the hell is Andrew Collins? Is that the love baby of Anthony Collins and Andrew Whitworth?

:)

I think it was the collective name of the left side of our offensive line..... You know, those magical three games when we could run the ball AND protect the passer.

That is not a statement of an opinion. That's a statement meant to be regarded as fact. And it is an outright lie. We are NOT able to keep any of our players for salaries less than they'd make elsewhere, let alone "a lot of our star players".

And you're making a habit of making up lies and portraying them as fact. This for one. In another thread saying the receivers against SD in the playoffs had 5 drops that would have went for 3rd down, when in reality there was only 1 drop in the entire game.

It is disgusting behavior.

What Collinsworth said was nothing new. Nobody ever said Mike Brown wasn't a human being capable of great compassion. What's been said, adnasium, for 25 years is that he's cheap, stubborn, and incapable adapting to modern NFL landscape.

The reason this team is loaded with talent now a days is because MB, evidently due to age, has less of an active role as GM. He let's Marv do his thing an lets Katie handle contracts. We still however, after all these years, STILL...don't have an actual GM or front office exec from outside the Brown family. Only the Bengals and the Cowboys have their owner mascurading as a GM. We have gotten lucky with a few players signing before their contract was up. Sometimes the allure of guaranteed money and job security win out over the prospect of maximizing worth in FA. To say players resign here because MB is this great guy or something is hogwash.

I didn't say it was THE reason. I asked if it could be A reason, as in one of many that keep them here.

Perhaps a more family environment in the clubhouse and around ownership could cause a certain comfort level. Most FA's do not see that here because they rather sign fro the huge dollar in other markets. I don't blame those guys either. I am just saying maybe it is a contriubting factor as to why we are able to sign more of our players. Winning doesn't hurt either.

Jesus, some of you gusy act like I was saying, "Mike Brown is such an awesome guy, who wouldn't want to resign here for millions upon millions less." A contributing factor? PERHAPS! But maybe not, who knows really. It was soemthing to discuss after the way Collinsworth gushed about Brown and what an excellent human being, and man he is.

They don't provide gatorade. We've read stories in the past that the meals provided at the hotels they stay on the road are substandard. And the list goes on.

Mikey loves giving criminals second chances though.

Why did Jonathan Joseph want to take so much Gatorade home anyway?

Johnathan Joseph: Bengals are cheap, Texans are not | ProFootballTalk

He was also quite fond that his requests for soap and deodorant were taken seriously. J-Joe likes to smell good. Smelling good requires product. Aint nobody got time to buy their own soap and deodorant.

Quite the stark contrast from what Collinsworth said to what Joseph said. Good find on the article. I would say, the way they are treated probably DOES NOT make a difference based on that.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/shutd...atorade-situation-houston-083302098--nfl.html

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was quick to defend the Bengals and their miniature Gatorade prohibition act. From a chat at Cincinnati.com:
I was told this morning about Johnathan's comments that were printed. It's my fault that I feel that a player doesn't need to take a dozen Gatorades home in his backpack each night and that we are paying him a salary. I'm sure that Johnathan would not have been one of the abusive players but it is my policy.

Yeah, and let me guess Marvin, it was also your idea to have the players roommate up on road trips so you could promote a family environment. It had nothing to do with money.
