The thing that drove me nuts about the second one was the stupid coaching move of bringing a cold goalie in on the shootout for one shooter.

I yelled at the screen.

And I think we can all agree that Fast And The Furious was the worst movie ever. Absolutely nothing redeeming about it.

There are numerous on-ice things that are not only intentionally foolish/wrong/illegal in all 3 movies, but seem to serve no purpose whatsoever. I stopped counting the number of uncalled offsides in part 3, but from what I recall they tend to happen in all 3 movies. Like I understand that it's tough to have them do the "Flying V" and not have someone offside unless the puck remains on the stick of the guy at the vertex almost the entire time so I'll give them a little wiggle room there, but there are tons of times where dudes in the offensive zone make passes out of the zone and then stand there offside and watch while the recipient crosses the blue line. I mean, what's the point of that even? Just have him wait for the recipient to cross the blue line and then pass him the puck, what's the difference?

D2 was my favorite movie as a kid. I think I burned through 2 of those VHS tapes. Watching it today I think about how impossible it is...which is sad. "Hey, we're in Compton, lets go hit up those young african american fellows playing street hockey! They'll help us beat the Jamaican junior olympic team!"

I don't think it was that bad of a coaching move. Keep in mind that Gunner Stahl had a tendency to go glove side and Julie had a better glove than Goldberg. I think the mistake was starting Goldberg instead of Julie. I always felt Julie was the better goalie, but coach Bombay has his favorites.

Yeah, it was totally that and not Stupid Kid Movie Logic™. I mean, this is a movie in which the national team includes a figure skater, a guy who skates perfectly except he CANNOT STOP, and Dean "fourth Hanson brother" Portman, not to mention some random guy they picked up off the street mid-tournament because he has a nice shot. The coach is an ex-lawyer turned minor leaguer who is not subject to the whims of time which constrain us lesser mortals, since he has apparently taken a shot at the NHL, failed, earned a law degree, become a high powered attorney, coached a year of kids hockey, then gone back to the minors, and is now expected to make the pros despite being almost as old as Teemu Selanne. He admittedly has experience coaching... one season of experience, that he earned due to being sentenced to community service for a DUI. Oh, and during that season he hooked up with the mother of one of his charges. That's the kind of fine, upstanding young (?) gentleman we chose (again, in the movie) to lead our youth into the world. I'm ignoring the legalities of changing your uniforms midway through a game, the absurdities of double clotheslining a guy and not getting ARRESTED, the question of why the US is the only team that has girls (and two!), and the whole rollerblading through the Mall of America thing (they will fuck you UP if you try that).

But yeah, you are right, we have to make sure the goalie subs are realistic.

(I rag on it, but I have as much nostalgia for this movie as anyone else. I mean, the first time I heard Queen was in this movie. That's worth something right there.)

I always loved how quickly they got the knuckle-puck guy into the goalie equipment in the 2nd movie.

I'm sure 43 can relate on this one. That shit does not go on that quickly.

Jean-Claude Van Damme did it pretty fast in Sudden Death.

I think Boss is referring to the one where he does the split.

That was Braden Holtby, not Van Damme.

It's still on? Man, how long is that movie?

Haha, I actually saw it in the guide on a different Showtime channel yesterday too, it's on all month.

Second best Van Damme movie.

Frank Dux still holds the real-life record for knocking out Jesus Christ himself in under 0.2 seconds... just ask him.
