The PGA is claiming it was Mickelson's decision. I don't buy it. Its one thing to skip the Masters, the greatest championship in golf, but quite another to drop out of the PGA when he is the defending champion. I believe he is suspended.

It was Phil's decision.

The PGA of America announced Friday that Mickelson has withdrawn from the PGA Championship.

"We have just been informed that Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the PGA Championship," the statement said. "Phil is the defending champion and currently eligible to be a PGA Life Member and we would have welcomed him to participate. We wish Phil and [wife] Amy the very best and look forward to his return to golf.".

It's not as if Phil is shy about expressing himself. If they were lying about that he'd say so.

Can you imagine him missing the Masters and that massive ego of his getting all the pre tournament attention for the upcoming PGA

I just don't see him letting them slide with lying about it.

Probably told him to shut up and swallow it or get a lifetime ban from the PGA like they are threatening the other players with if they join the new league. Just seems odd to me.

Bfd if I'm Phil, especially as much as he likes to tell us what he thinks. He's 52 years old. It's basically over competitively against the best in the world. Unless he's excited about trying to be the best of the old, but not too old, guys how can they really hurt him? He's worth $400 million.

I think it's his decsision. He's sort of at war with them atm and his abscence hurts the tour more than it does him. What are the odds he'd compete given his recent play this season? There's nothing in it for him. But he'd be their big draw heading in.

Phil showing the world what many of his peers have known for a long time. He's nothing more than a money chasing asshole.

Its odd that the two biggest names in the sport, Mickelson and Woods, are also the two biggest assholes in the sport.

And yet, everyone on tour loves Woods and can't stand Mickelson.

Got any, um, evidence of that? No? Weird...
Eyewitness to his assholeness. Just a complete turd on the course and a shitbird in his outside the course life. No getting around it.

Why on earth would you change the par for a course for a specific tournament? It makes no sense. If its a par 72, leave it as a par 72, instead of changing it to 70 like they did here.

Make it more difficult, artificially by taking out two of the par 5's.

One "Par 4" on the front is 500 yards, one on the back is 527. Holy crap.

It just seems silly to me. If you shot 70, then you shot 70, whether that is par or two under. Still the same score. Artificially changing the score that gives you a par changes nothing.

Good god, espn, can we talk about someone who actually played well yesterday instead of a broke down has-been?

How the mighty have fallen: the sycophants on espn were gushing about Woods making his third cut in a row in a Major. Good god now woods is glorified for simply making a cut

Watching ESPN PGA golf coverage this morning and listening to how brutal the conditions are. What a joke the only brutal thing on the broadcast was Tiger Woods hacking like a moron and the announcers excuses for it. Why did anyone ever let ESPN try and do golf coverage. morons

I loved it. The excuses were flowing from the sycophants on ESPN about how hard it is for Woods to get ready and how the weather affects him more than any other golfer. It was sickening.
