Happy birthday to an amazing man who had a huge influence on the world as we know it. Happy 368th Isaac Newton.

P.S. Most historians agree that Jesus was not likely born in December. Although I'm sure you along with most others probably already knew that.

pretty cool thing happened to me today....

my boss invited my kids and me over to her house to sppend christmas (which also happens to be my birthday) with her and her family. I think she worries about us with my wife deployed over to Afghanistan. I didn't really want to go. Not because I don't care for her or anything, I just felt a little weird about it for some reason. But, she was rather persistent so I finally agreed.

Now, for a little back story...she knows I'm a diehard hockey fan and a big fan of the wings. And once, a very long time ago, I mentioned that I named my first-born son after one of my all-time favorite players...Brendan Shanahan.

Well, when we get there, they bring out this giant bag made to look like santa's toybag. It's stuffed full of presents for my kids. There's also one for me...pretty big and a little heavy. I think what in the world coould this be. When I get it open, it's a large frame with an autographed picture of Shanny skating with the Cup over his head from 2002, his 2002 Tops All-Star card and a small plaque with his name and # on it.

Her kids, who are both in their 20's, ran around playing lazer tag (one of the gifts each of the kids got) with my kids, shooting pool with them, etc. I just thought wow, these people had no need to do any of this for us. Helped restore some faith/belief there are still some truly good people in the world.

yeah, I think sometimes we get so caught up in the rush of the rat race, we're moving too fast to see that there are really a lot of good people around us....and it takes something like Christmas for us to slow down just a bit to see them.
