A ton of Mocks have us taking a safety because the thought is we have no choice but to go defense. The odds are there wont be a D-line worthy of the 17th pick. The ILB and OLB guys that will be on the board most likely all are questionable at 17 as well unless some one like Foster slips, or you really believe in Reddick. So by process of elimination, the most valuable defensive pick on the board at 17 is likely to be a safety.
We cannot go safety at 17, unless it's Adams.

And if he is there at 17, you dont even hesitate. Again he is one of the 5 defensive players I would take over Cook and not even blink. Hooker is another, Garrett of course.
If Foster is there, you run the card to the stage.

I'd go Cook over Hooker. Assuming CM or DC don't bust, speaking for myself, I think a dynamic running back with Kirk is underestimated.

If Philly takes McCaffrey, they would have Wentz and CM. Dallas has Zeke and Dak. I sure would like to say we got Kirk and Dalvin, or Kirk and McCaffrey.

We'd have a franchise QB, franchise RB, with Pryor, Doctson, and Crowder, we'd hopefully be set at WR for the next 8. Williams, Scherff, Moses, and Long were all drafted in the 1st three rounds, and then there is Reed. A top 5 TE. I think RB@17 just makes us impossible to deal with on offense, and buys us time to really build this defense and be able to compete while doing it.

Mostly agree, but can we really afford another redshirt first round pick??

Actually we could. Brown, mason foster, and Compton are on one year deals. So the pick makes sense and Foster does not have to play right away.

Round 1 (17): Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State

Round 2 (49): Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

Round 3 (81): Montravius Adams, DT, Auburn

I'd take that first 2 rounds in a heartbeat

2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper and Todd McShay mock 3 rounds for Redskins

This is another entertainment mock, with the 3rd round being the only real possibility.
The Colts, Ravens, and Eagles will NOT pass Cook TWICE, and Hooker is likely to fall out of the top 10 but someone will likely trade to draft him. I will say if somehow Hooker and Cook are there at 17, you've got a tough choice.

So why is it impossible for RBs to slide this season? History says they are being overhyped by the mocks and media's this season.

Its quite possible for RBs to slide. The thing is, the number of likely starting RBs vs the number of likely starting defensive players in this draft is like 1-4. Meaning for every Fournette or Cook, there are 4 guys they think can start at a high level.

So reality is, if you are going to bank on a position sliding to the 2nd or 3rd round, you want to bank on a RB sliding, or a D-lineman???

I bank on a RB because history says so. That being said, I won't be upset with a RB...it just doesn't fit my philosophy.

I am not like Dean.

The last time the Redskins drafted a RB in the 1st round was 1967 when they drafted Ray McDonald who was arrested in 1968 for having sex with a man in public. He was out of football the next year due to injury.

I think they called it Broken manhood. Its apparently a career ending injury in the NFL, NHL. You can get by with a sprained manhood in the NBA (See Rodman, Dennis) and it apparently does not affect your ability to play Tennis or Golf... hell it might give you a competitive advantage in Tennis actually.

My bet we go RB in the 1st. We all saw how it benefitted Dallas last year and we all know Dak can't hold Kirks jockstrap.

My memory of him is scant at the least however the name does rang a bell.

No one paid my attention to the draft back then. If you were a sports nut you read about it the next day in the paper. I remember we had a terrible run game back then and thinking wow, a RB in the 1st round. He stunk like our other backs and he wasn't around long. I do remember having his football card.
