Yeah - I mean it got to the point when McMiss would come out for a field goal and you just knew he wasn't going to make it. I remember playing the Patriots and it was still somewhat early but you could start to feel the game getting out of our hands... We stall after a decent drive starting to get back into it and on the field comes McMiss... I was 99.9% sure he was missing that kick which was gonna suck the life out of us.

and

He did.

Just not a feeling you want in your kicker.

Very true. It is a new year though so hoping he can be like the guys before him in Elam and Prater and see that surge forward into a legit top tier kicker for us.

I think @Mingo has been spending his offseason with him to prove himself right. Rumor is Mingo spent millions in training for him.

I don't know about you guys but last yr you could just see it on McManus face that he looked like he was too nervous or lacking confidence when it mattered. You didn't see that with Barth. Hopefully this yr,if he wins the job, he's mastered his confidence issues.

Yeah I saw it... McManus emotion after a missed field goal was one of no confidence.

One of the reasons I was happy to see Manny Ramirez go was his reaction to McManus missing that FG

You don't scream profanity at a teammate - a kid - esp when you are an offensive lineman who is standing on the sideline during FG attempts because you are a turnstile ......

Looking back at last season's team - McManus most likely had no support system there

We had Del Rio mailing it in - to the point of some saying intentionally once the Raider job was his ( ... standing on the sideline laughing w/ Davis prior to the final Raider game was bull**** ) .. Del Rio even coming to blows with John Elway in the locker room after a loss ...

John Fox, who by all accounts was a nice guy - but between Gase, Manning and Elway, Fox probably had zero support himself and hated putting inexperienced guys in the game ..

With the OL in disarray, Manning struggling, and these other issues, the team was a disaster waiting to happen

Who could McManus turn to ??

Barth ?? - The guy whose job he was in competition for ?

And then you had your own teammates screaming at you - offensive players who were failing to get the ball in the endzone anyway ...

Yes, to succeed you need some balls and a lot of confidence - but McManus walked into a hornet's nest last year

Meh- I don't buy the no support system here. We have plenty of leaders. I didn't see many people pointing fingers at McMiss on our team. Don't recall the Manny thing but I will take your word for it. Just don't think the guy having no support system around here was his issue last year.

He didn't scream a profanity, he yelled, "Come on!" And it was a pretty normal reaction, I know I basically felt the same way.

But if you're glad Ramirez is gone for that, then you should be hoping the Broncos get rid of Demaryius Thomas, since he slammed his helmet down at the same time.

I think there was a good group of players here last year but it just didn't seem like the players or coaches were always fully into the season. I don't know what that was but last year we never seemed to look quite right. We would have good games here and there but for the talent on this team we just never looked to go for the throat like the teams fighting for a Championship. It does seem though this year there is a new energy among the team. Practices see guys dancing everywhere. There is a little more fire and chippiness about this team.

Yeah, I'm going to need a reference for a lot of this stuff. I've never heard of most of it.

And I don't buy that McManus walked into a hornet's nest; the Broncos gave up a draft pick for him, so they obviously had faith that he could get it done.

I would say I am glad Ramirez is gone in that he just does not fit this system one bit. I know from what I have read that he was a really hard worker, very respected player in the locker room/front office/coaches but in the end he just doesn't fit what we are wanting to do and his salary was way too much to be a back up. It was a great trade for both teams in my opinion when he went to Detroit. He fits them well and the Broncos gave up a player most likely that wasn't making our roster anyway to trade up and get a player we really wanted.

Oh I totally agree with you. I just think it's ridiculous to claim that you're glad he's gone because he screamed a profanity at a kicker when 1) he didn't scream a profanity, and 2) Demaryius Thomas had a very similar reaction.

Oh I understand. This is an emotional game for us as fans and for them as players. They are going to have tough days out there and sometimes when another guy messes up it definitely frustrates them. Especially that field goal in question where we finally had some positives going our way in that game and that field goal at least gives the team a glimmer of hope that we can get back into probably the biggest regular season game of the season for the team. When he missed it I think the whole team just had a huge punch to the gut.

I never said that I am glad Manny is gone simply for his reaction

He was a turnstile, and the weak link on a OL in disarray

Let me ask this:

Why, during a FG attempt, is Manny Ramirez - a "starting" lineman - standing on the sideline ?

You said it was "one of the reasons you were happy to see Manny go." I'm saying one shouldn't have anything to do with the other.

To answer your second question, Manny was a center, not the long snapper. You do realize that teams specifically carry one player just for snapping the ball on punts and field goal attempts, right?

He spent part of the year at Center and part of the year at Guard. On Field Goals they do substitute in though for some of the OL guys with some of the back ups. There is the same thought towards having Emmanuel Sanders in on punt returns. while they are probably better why risk them on such a play to injury. There still are some starters that play in that role though as obviously with only 46 active spots open for game starters have to play on some of that.

Forgot about that. cdumler is right, he spent time at both spots. He's also right in that teams often use less valuable players on special teams. Remember a few years ago, Belichick took a lot of heat because Gronk broke his arm blocking on an extra point in a blowout win over the Colts.
