Apparently Barth hit from 65 too. Not something I am expecting either to do in a game situation.

Must have been kicking with wind for Barth to kick a 65.

I will say it now...McManus will be our week 1 kicker. I think the kid is getting some confidence lately. Heck he went over and told the coaches he could make it from 70 and they laughed at him from what I understand and then went out and nailed it.

If he can hit 40 yarders on a consistent bases I am down. Did not see him do that last year, but a lot can change in a year.

Matt Prater was pretty bad on field goals his first year with Detroit and became just a kickoff specialist on Detroit and Miami before improving a lot to make our team.

70 yarders are exciting but if he hits one here and there it won't warrant him a roster spot. He won't be attempting many of those throughout a season.

I just hope we don't need two roster spots for two kickers again.

Barth was pretty consistent last year but can't kick off. McMiss was terrible but can boot the ball to Europe.

I think so, too. Frankly I've been hoping that he would work through his accuracy issues, because his leg is not something you can coach. Reminds me a lot of Prater in that he struggled with accuracy issues early in his career before getting it together.

I just think the team is watching Barth do kick offs and just shaking their heads at how much of a line drive they are. Teams are pretty much guaranteed even if they start 6 yards deep in the end zone that they are making it to the 25 before a single Bronco even has a chance to hit them. With how terrible the kick off coverage was I think the team can handle a couple more missed field goals at the cost of at least starting a team at the 20 on a regular basis.

Also from what I understand McManus has improved on his field goal percentage so far in camp. How much remains to be seen but I think the Broncos give him a shot.

Yup this is what I was thinking too. You can help coach up better accuracy from a kicker. You can't usually coach up the ability to have the type of leg that McManus has.

Yeah if Barth is our kicker we have to have two kickers on the roster basically. McManus if he can find his consistent touch would take care of two needs. I just don't trust him right now, but am hoping I can gain that trust.. He would be a huge asset if he puts it all together.

Draft Crazy I thought I saw somewhere that you have a draft website...IF so what is the website so I can check it out. The others on here will tell you the draft is maybe my favorite part of the season. Always big on how our team builds itself year in and year out to be successful.

I think you go through that with every kicker. I can remember clear back when Elam replaced David Treadwell and he missed a kick against the Raiders, I think, and my dad was like "Treadwell would have made that." And then when the Broncos let Elam go to Atlanta he had a really good first season there while the Broncos kicking game struggled. Shoot, even Prater always made me nervous kicking between 40-49 yards, that area was really an issue for him until 2013 when he finally put it all together.

McManus definitely missed too many last season, but I'm willing to let a young kicker with a strong leg work few a few misses when the upside is as high as it is.

I do like what we did with McMiss last year. He struggled but we didn't give up on him. Re-signed him to the PS then the active roster. He has to feel confident that we liked him enough to not feed him to the wolves after his struggled. It seems like we have been fairly patient with kickers in the past and those guys have gone on to kick well for us.

You have obviously washed that brain of yours since it was in use last year on this subject.

Hey now. I just told you McMiss was awful and he was. Doesn't mean I was rooting against him or didn't think he could get better.

I cringed every time we had to kick a field goal even the 30 yarders. It was definitely rough last year. Hopefully he has learned from all of that. From the sound of it he is having a much better camp and definitely seems to have a lot more confidence this year.
