The deal is for five years and $47.5 million, with $28.5 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN.com.

Reportedly he left some money on the table. Making more on a shit team apparently wasn't that appealing for him. Good deal for both sides.

I wonder about that.

If Revis wants a max contract then he'll be somewhere else. The Pats won't be stupid and pull a Miami and dump a shitload of money at his feet.

Not if he wants the money because the Patriots wouldn't be able to afford him with the luxury tax. Don't they have to be at $144 and would be cutting it very closely if they resign him even not by giving him the max?

"luxury tax"?? that's for baseball and basketball isn't it? In football you can not exceed the cap at all.

I think they paid McCourty because they feel comfortable they can resign Revis. It's a good sign.

I think they may have a deal in place with Revis. He knows what the Patriots will pay and that allowed them to sign McCourty.

A lot of stuff may be going on behind the curtain that hasn't been released. Mayo has to be restructured. The Pats got $8.1M when they cut Vince and that's pretty much McCourty's money, Gostkowski was franchised at $4.5M which is only $800K more than he was previously making. Not picking up the $25M option on Revis allows them to resign him around $16Ma year and have $9M to play with.

[QUOTE="TxHeat, post: 6322895, member: f they take care of Revis I will consider this a successful offseason already.[/QUOTE]
Agreed. Would still like to see them sign Vereen after Revis.

I heard yesterday that Vereen has been offered $3.5M a year for 4 years. if that's not a rumor or someone's folly, the he's gone. The Patriots will never match that kind of money.

both actually.

Both??

Baseball doesn't have a cap. Or has that changed recently? I don't really follow that boring sport. The NBA has a soft cap. You pay a luxury tax for going over it. You can't go over the cap in the NFL.
