What's peoples' thoughts on his this season? They under-performed badly last season but his WR's were pretty much hurt. Does he bounce back and become a top 7 QB or would you rather take a chance on Nick Foles? I'm in an auction keeper and Foles is projected at $8 and Ryan at $2

Slight bounce-back, but I would still take Foles, no question.

I would gladly take Ryan over Foles this year. No way in hell Foles repeats that kind of efficiency this year, and without that, he really wasn't anything special. And he's lost Desean Jackson, granted he gets Maclin back, but Jackson is a guy that changes defensive gameplans, Maclin is not.
Ryan gets Jones back, a healthy Roddy White, a returning Harry Douglas, and all of his RB's plus a new possibly big time rookie RB. The only thing he's lost is TonyG, not to brush off losing a HOF TE as nothing, but his production can be replaced/spread out amongst those that are returning and or filling his spot. And they'll throw more often than Philly, because of all those threats in the passing game. Chip Kelly wants as many runs as possible, probably even more so with no DeSean Jackson around.

Ryan at $2 is an absolute steal, take it and run. FOles would need a virtual repeat to justify $8

I'd take an $8 Ryan over a $2 Foles. Switch the prices up and it's a no brainer, IMO.

Wasn't the falcon Oline terrible last year too? Foles was great last year, but a lot of it was the system he was in. I think defenses are going to acclimate themselves to it and be able to respond much better. I think Ryan and Foles should be ranked about the same. Ryan has better weapons (although do not discount Maclin, Sproles and McCoy in the passing game.) I'd say both of their potentials are centered around a similar mean, but the floor and ceiling of Matt Ryan is much lower and higher than foles.

He had no SJax. No Julio. No Roddy. Yet still threw for over 4500 yds to a bunch of backups in 2013.

Dr. Seuss wrote about this:

Foles has Sproles
Ryan was tryin' to throw some TDs
To Roddy, whose body got shoddy "So please,"
Said Ryan, "Gonzo is gone, so
Find me some catchers"
While SJAX was carried away on a stretcher

A healthy Julio Jones and Roddy White makes Ryan and dangerous quarterback. Douglas/slot receiver in general for the Falcons will play a bigger role in the Falcons offense without Tony Gonzalez. Keep an eye out for Toilolo in the very late rounds for a backup tight end because he likely be a key part of the redzone offense. Having a 6'8" TE will be an asset in that part of the field.

Id say Ryan with a healthy receiving core has a slight edge over Foles, but I think both will have good fantasy seasons.

Ryan won't be a top 5 fantasy QB but he has a chance to be top 10. I guess it depends on where you draft him. I don't like picking quarterbacks too high on the board unless you're talking about Aaron Rodgers, Manning (you know which one I'm talking about), or Brees.

Yahoo has Matt Ryan ranked 59th and Foles 69th so within a round of each other is what I've been seeing in the mocks

Ryan won't be a top 5 fantasy QB but he has a chance to be top 10.

Not to poke holes, but he was a top 10 QB last season in standard scoring leagues. (Tied for 9th actually with Big Ben.) Not bad for a guy who lost nearly all of his starting receivers. According to one source, he's finished in the top 10 the last 4 seasons.

And either TKO or tlance will mention that the difference between the 4th ranked QB and the 10th ranked QB is only about 50 points (which factors out to a difference of about 3 points a game). So there's plenty of QB value after the top 3 are off the board.

Ryan was only 50 points below his own career FF high last year, so it wasn't even that much of an off year. He probably won't win or lose your league for you.

On the other hand, even if you throw out Foles' ridiculous 7-TD game and include his awful game against the Cowboys, his PPG was still a lot better than Ryan last year (25 vs. 19 if 6-pt passing TD).

Of course that was last year. I'd be happy to have Foles, but since he's somewhat risky I'd probably take a somewhat early backup QB if I ended up with him.

I guess what I was trying to say is that he's not going to blow up the charts in FF, but he can be a solid fantasy starter. I was basically just trying not to oversell him so I didn't look like a homer.

Well of that bunch that occupy the tier directly below the big three. .Stafford and Ryan are easily the two who have the biggest upside
