Well, of course the Greatest Player Ever spent his last years with the Mets. And the Dominican Dandy spent some time with the Red Sox (and the Dodgers, I believe, shuddering as I say so). McCovey bounced all over.

Was Robby Thompson one of the three? Maybe?

I'm trying to brainstorm, but I can't even come up with other plausible candidates. All the names I come up with (the Clark's, the Bonds's, etc.) had time with other teams. I'll bet when someone names them, I'll slap my forehead and say, dammit, of COURSE! But who would have been good enough to last that long but all with the Giants???

I assume we're only talking SF Giants, not New York.

I spent a few minutes on the Giants website, watching the last out of Cain's perfect game, over and over again. Got a bit choked up. Will be sad to see Matty go, but he was a solid pitcher, a class act, and now will always be a Giant.
Robby is one of the exceptions.

While he never appeared on the field during a regular season game for another team, he did sign with the Indians and went to ST with them. He technically retired as an Indian.

I am including the NY years.

And yes, The Dandy retired as a dog. What’s a travesty.

Assuming Cain truly retires after this year, he will be only the 4th player ever to have at least a 10-year career and spend it all with the Giants.

Who are the other 3?

There are a few others who you think MAY qualify, but don’t really. Bonus points if you can name some of these players (and say why they don’t qualify).

Mel Ott I know for sure. I've looked at his BR page enough times in my life to notice that one.

hmmmm

Christy Mathewson, and I'm gonna steal VASFfan's answer and go with Robby Thompson.

Other close guys, obviously Willie Mays, Tim Lincecum. Bob Brenly had to come real close.

If you are including the NY years, did Christy Matthewson only pitch with the Giants?

Ott is one.

Not Robby. Darn.

Well, if we're including New York, I would have thrown in Ott (would have been right on that one I see) and Matthewson (a game with the Reds???? amazing).

Hubble? The pitcher, not the telescope.

And I fully acknowledge that not counting Roby is a bit gymnastics. But I saw this question elsewhere, and he wasn’t counted, so I am just bringing that logic forward. I personally believe he should count (with an asterisk).

Ott is one.

1 game?!? Wow. Mathewson the closest of close.

Okay so Hubbell, Ott aaaannnnddddd.....

Gotta be a SF Giant. I'm trying to think of people that are still around with the Giants right now as coaches or whatnot. Guys like Clark, Mark Gardner, Dunston, Dravecky.... but I know it's not them. Hmm.

I'll let someone else tackle this one. tzill was always great with these.

Yeah, I'm stumped on this one. All the names I think of I know played elsewhere too.

Ok before I look at the spoiler, I'm just going to throw one final, fairly random dart...Bill Terry?

I guess not. But 3 of his years were cuppo-level activity...

So I was digging around since I conceded the loss and found that Jim Davenport played 13 years, all with the Giants....
Ok, I don’t trust that the question was accurate.

Counting Robby, we have now identified 3 additional players...

Needless to say, Cain joins some rarified air...
