ugh.. its just all so wrong
he will forever be a St Louis Blue to me
time for the jersey to the rafters I think... its been long enough
yup ... Avs should retire his number!
Not to break up the fantastic joke string we have going here, and to beat a dead horse, but...I can't help it.
Congrats Marty, you've officially tarnished your career. Maybe not a big blemish (that was done with Uncle-Dad), but enough to bug fans a lot. And now you're joining their FO? Just...so wrong.
To be honest though, the Devils made no effort to keep him there - maybe Marty should have taken a backup spot there but the Devils made no effort to keep him and both sides are to blame
Shades of Alfredsson last year. Was it really worth it to play just a couple more playoff games?
That seems to have been patched up pretty quickly, though Alfie didn't immediately join another team's FO.
Marty had no business being a starter. The Devils couldn't play the guy simply because of history. I'm not saying that Marty owed them anything, but it's his legacy. Even if he had simply retired as a Devil instead of pouting all offseason waiting for a call, and THEN moved on to a front office somewhere, it doesn't look bad. He seems pretty darn desperate now. What he did with the Blues is what journeymen players do, not "best ever" players.
With that being said, Roy>Brodeur

I agree about him not being a starter, but that being said, the Devils have not done a very good job of running the ship there the last few years and it all starts with Lou - while Marty didn't help the cause, the Devils were pushing him out the door and I think Marty sensed that too
The Blues love Marty and how he's been a great mentor to Jake Allen and that's why they're glad to have him in their front office
Like I said, he's not a starter anymore and he didn't handle it perfectly, but the Devils aren't an organization that people should be taking seriously anymore, either
It just sucks that Marty wasn't able to end his career with the Devils, because of his own doing and the team's doing
I honestly think this "tarnished your career" thing is almost never true.
He will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is and will be considered one of the best to ever play his position. He holds an absurd number of career records for goalies in the NHL. He will be beloved in New Jersey and among Devils' fans for bringing them a couple Cups. That's how people will remember him regardless of what he did with his last couple seasons and I think that generally applies to most of the greats.
I understand what you mean, but I don't think it matters all that much what players do in those last couple years at the end of the day.
