Chuck Landon: Marshall recruits disappoint this year | The Herald-Dispatch
A couple of interesting points from his column…
I think he nailed it with this…
Maybe a Marshall fan…. or someone who thinks a program relegated to the G5 can compete… never saw it coming. But, those of us who are thankful Luck got us to the Big 12 so WVU could stay relevant… knew what could have happened to the football program.
With the autonomy vote, the gap will only widen. And, the G5 schools will become less competitive than their current status.
A couple of interesting points from his column…
After the most successful season of Doc Holliday's head coaching career at Marshall, Herd fans expected a banner recruiting class.
Why wouldn't they?
After a 13-1 season including Marshall's first Conference USA football championship, a Top 25 ranking and a dominating bowl victory, the fans' expectations heading into National Signing Day were legitimate.
I think he nailed it with this…
There also weren't any 4-star recruits such as Kendall Gant or A.J. Leggett. But guess what? There wasn't a single 4-star signee in all of C-USA. In fact, there were only five among the 60 G5 schools.
Why?
The total cost of attendance allotment already has begun to widen the gap between Power Five and G5 schools. Simply put, a 4-star recruit will get more money by signing with a P5 school.
All those factors combined to make MU's Class of '15 fall short of expectations.
And nobody saw it coming.
