his dead money hit is $5.625 million, proving this is a front office willing to make tough short term choices for the long term health of the team. A good sign.

quitters.... At least he wont have to go far for his cable show.

Might open Kevin White up at 7, or trading down to get DGP and another second rounder, that man is a beast. 6'5 237

That is a huge hole to fill though, Healthy you knew he would get you 1000 yards.

Someone needs to be Linus' security blanket

First, I think Cobb is a very good receiver and he has a lot more time left as a good wr. Bmarsh is great, and he will be missed, but he is already 30. It won't be long before he starts declining quickly (he may already have). Even if we had hung onto him, the bears won't be good quick enough to utilize him while he is still effective. Getting a 5th round pick isnt bad for an aging receiver who's starting to get beat up. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he starts getting injured every year. Whereas I do agree that we are both fans of the worst franchise in the nfl (probably not all of sports), we should at least wait until we see the product on the field before we condemn the coach and GM.

( We got rid of a top 5 WR that was only making 7.5 mil and now were gonna go after a top 25 wr that will get 9 mil. If we traded BM for a draft pick that would help in the rebuild I would have understood. Now I understand we got screwed yet again in our GM hiring. This is a clear sign that he sucks as a GM and won't be here long.)

well, Noon, whether he was our best player or not is certainly debatable. A very good player, sure, among our best. But what is not debatable is to say there was "no reason." Of course there was a reason Noon. It is pretty obvious that the reason is because the new management/coaching doesn't want to put up with a prima donna, and they felt his behavior was going to be toxic to the locker room, and probably deter potential free agencts from signing here. Whether or not any of that is justified or not, or whether they are right or not, given that he was one of our best is debatable, but to say there was no reason is simply false on it's face. Like it or not, it is not that hard to see why they did this.

by the way, this year's draft is considered to be very strong in wide receivers.

we should:

1) extend Jeffery. Now.
2) sign a second journey-level grade WR (Kenny Britt type...not saying him exactly, just a middle-grade/mid-price proven veteran type, this is probably why they talked to Hartline)
3) draft a new kid out of this deep class

I'd prefer them to not spend all the money on a big ticket WR, I'd prefer them to focus their cap dollars on all the changes we will need to the 3-4 and locking up some of the higher priced guys on the defensive side only if they are young (so, more like McCourty, less like Wilfork).

I think this will prove to be a good move in the long run but the immediate effects may negatively affect offensive production, especially if the Bears pick up a WR in the draft who is not NFL ready day one (which is the likely scenario). If they pick up a decent WR in FA then the drop off will be minimized. But I agree with Cubbzz: The Bears need some younger blood. Besides, this is Fox and Pace's team now and they will make changes to improve it as they see necessary.

Noon, take a deep breath. Brandon Marshall was definitely not a Top 5 receiver. He is not better than Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, or AJ Green in any way, shape, or form. We haven't seen enough yet, but he might not be as good as Kelvin Benjamin, Beckman Jr, Mike Evans, Hopkins, or Sammy Watkins even in 2015....much less 2018. And he is not clearly better than a bunch of other guys....he's in sort of that 10-15 pool. Very, very good, yes. But no need to exaggerate. And he's 30.

I'm not really in favor of signing Cobb, I think he will get overpaid, but there are serviceable WRs out there that can play the position during a year we weren't winning the Super Bowl anyway. And yes, they did get a draft pick. Not much, but something.

I like it... I wouldn't mind seeing RB Mark Ingram brought in too. Forte/Ingram- if they are moving to a running game, with P/A... that would be ideal. If they can't get a cheap extension for Forte, Ingram would be set up as the lead back the following year. Good inside/outside combo and he's only 25 or 26.

after agreeing to trade Marshall, Jimmy Claussen was signed to another one year deal.
