That's a bs play. Favre should be taken out of the Hall. Or at the very least, Pete Rose should be let in!

And oh yeah, Get off My Lawn!

Meh, just some dudes who spent their whole lives being worshipped and paid very well to play a kid's game acting childish. Crazy to think they'd have mentalities like that when the only real work they ever did in their whole lives was perhaps part-time jobs in high school before they went to college and then pro ball. Not to mention the brain injuries from all the years of playing the game.

Does a bear shit in the woods? Man, him and Klecko were roided out of their minds lol.
I'll say this though, at least 80% of college football players use steroids. Heck, my son played college baseball at a couple of different schools and he said it was close to that number in baseball. I asked him about the football guys and he just laughed out loud

80% of guys in D2 football are on roids, let alone D1. D3 is where you start getting lots of clean players who were really good in high school and just really wanted to continue playing even at a low college level. Lol at how many people still think top end college or pro sports are anything less than dominated mostly by roids.

My oldest Son was a Pro MMA fighter. He fought several Legacy events, hung up his gloves to go to medical school. While the UFC does test, steroids are rampant in amatuer and pro MMA as well. He never took them, but honestly, if he stayed in and tried to go to the UFC, he would have needed to. It's nothing new. Anyone who thinks Brock Lesnar or Shane Carwin or Alistair Overeem weren't roided out of their minds when they got there are nuts

lol yeah, no one gets to the top levels of those sports without juicing out of their minds. Especially the super heavyweight types like Brock Lesnar and other heavies in fighting sports, or any linemen in high level football. Anyone who has been at all close to someone with first hand experience knows it. It always amuses me how people can take a look at guys like Lesnar or elite NFL linement/linebackers and think they were not roided out lol.

I think it's a relic from people desperatelywanting to believe that the roids in sports thing was ended back in the 90's when the MLB cracked down on a few big names for it/when Lance Armstrong got busted. And the fact that Lance Armstrong of all people + all of the cyclists who were behind him were obviously doing the same things should demonostrate to folks that roids do a lot more to enhance athletic performance than just add mass and strength. It can benefit the smaller guys tremendously as well, to the point where they won't succeed at the top levels without it as well.

Yeah, there's just too much money involved now.
Barry Bonds may never make it to the HOF but you know what he does have? $200 Million

Michael Strahan breaking the record has no impact on Gastineau not getting into the HOF. That happened years after he retired.

Gastineau, Favre, Strahan...Dick, dick, dick...
Agreed @jarntt but different levels of dickness, lol. Strahan a somewhat engaging personality and able to get into broadcasting because of it. Favre just an idiot with a long list of transgressions including sending photos of his dick to interns. Gastineau, although I have some pity for his health issues was always a very unlikeable player.

Records are meant to be broken.... Period!
Aiden Hutchinson was well on his way to doing that this year. He had 7.5 sacks in 4.5 games before getting hurt. That pace is almost 30 sacks for the season with the extra game. Granted he would probably not keep that pace all season but 25 was definitely possible.

Funny thing is.
The real record holder (unofficially obviously) is Harvey Martin
Who had 23 sacks in a 14 game season!
but in 77' Sacks weren't an official stat yet.

so Gastineau never really had the most sacks in a season.
Now as far as lost revenue. I can feel for him on that.
As far as his claim of being the sack master. He can pound sand!

Pro Football Reference has Martin with 20 in 1977.

NFL Sacks Single-Season Leaders (since 1960) | Pro-Football-Reference.com

It has the Lions Al "Bubba" Baker as the single season record holder with 23 in 1978.

I dont know how they looked at them back then.
but I have seen several times where they claim Martin had 23. Even in this video they say it was his 23rd sack on TV.
However with Bubba Baker with 23. My same point stays the same.

23 sacks in a 14 game season trumps 22 or 22.5 sacks in a 16 game season.
Gastineau really wasnt the sack king. Nor Strahan IMO.

Pro Football Reference is an excellent source so I suspect it and the 20 in 77 for Martin is correct. That clip was from only their 12th game that season.

They've gone back to 1960 reviewing game tapes to come up with numbers for guys who played before they started recording it as an official stat. The term didn't even exist when I started watching the game. Deacon Jones is 3rd all time behind Bruce Smith and Reggie White and is one of the guys credited with coming up with the term.

Well I am not arguing it. (couldnt if I wanted) Since I dont actually know. Also since it wasnt an official stat, who knows how they were scoring sacks back then. But several things says he had 23 sacks. But also, BTW I like the pro Football reference site & use it often. I tend to accept Pro football reference since I feel they do their due diligence. but even using that.
23 is still the mark & was in a 14 game season. actually I think 78' is when they expanded to 16 games when the Seahawks & bucs came in. But still. Bubba would be the sack king not Gastineau or Strahan.

Yep 78 was when they went to 16 games and I remember Bubba Baker well from that year. He made 1st team all pro as a rookie. But they didn't start making a big deal about sacks until a few years later.

You stand corrected

In 1967, Jones (unofficially) registered 26 sacks, a standard that would eclipse the current single-season record of 22.5 by Michael Strahan. That total becomes more impressive when you realize that it was accomplished in a 14-game season. For an encore, Jones (unofficially) had 24 sacks in 1968.

we are talking about that right now.
Same Pro football reference has Deacon with three years over 20 (which is crazy)
22 in 64' & 68'
21.5 in 67'
but again stands to say. where ever these sacks land. Gastineau & Strahan arent the kings. LOL

I gave mad respect to Reggie white when he broke the sack record. a Reporter said Deacon says the record is whatever # (I dont recall the # used) & Reggie said then Deacon still has the record until I reach that #. Which of course he did.

Gastineau embarrassed himself and showed what a dunce he really is.
