Series Thread: Mariners vs White Sox

Here are the roster moves the M's made for at least the rest of this series:

Dae-Ho Lee is back, with Wilhelmsen going on the DL to make room for him.

Pat Venditte, the switch pitcher, is up after pitching well for the Rainiers since the trade with Toronto. He's either taking Aoki's (odd man out against lefties) or Freeman's (called up for insurance purposes while Seager was recovering) spot on the roster. His ability to pitch with both arms gives the pen more flexibility than it had before.

Dan Altavilla, a hard throwing AA reliever, is taking the other open roster spot to give the bullpen another arm to work with. If he and Venditte both get into a game while they're here, they'll be the 30th and 31st pitchers used by the Mariners this year. To have gone through that many pitchers and still be as close to a playoff spot as the M's are right now is amazing.

With September call-ups coming next week, I think it's safe to assume that most of the call-ups will be on the pitching side of things.

Pretty bad when I put on the preseason game Raiders/Titans over a baseball game, but that's where we are now.

7 of their next 10 games are against the Rangers. Not likely they get hot over that span even with 3 sandwich games against the hapless Angles in the middle. Absolute best they would do is 5-5 over that span IMO. Not going to gain ground with that.

Well, we turn to Walker to show some grit and get us out of Chicago with a split. I don't have tons of confidence in him at this point, but I'm rooting for him and will definitely look forward to tuning in tomorrow to see how he gets after it.

I have liked Guti for a long time, but I'm having more and more difficulty understanding why he's out there in RF. He absolutely cannot move well enough to avoid being a big defensive liability, and his bat just hasn't been there in a couple months. If part of DiPoto's vision for how this team is to be constructed is to have a speedy, defensively superior OF then I am not sure why Heredia-Martin-O'Malley isn't the daily group. I know Aoki has been hitting well lately, but I really cringe every time I see his name in the lineup.

Anyway, here's hoping we can get a W tomorrow and see something better from Walker as we get ready to sink or swim vs Texas.

Agreed. Gotta go at least 4-3 against Texas to still be able to make a shot at the wild card, probably need to go 6-1 to have any hope of catching the Rangers for the division (not holding my breath on that one). Honestly I don't see either happening.

That's true, at least the M's are playing some meaningful baseball this late in the season, something we haven't seen for 15 years... It would be a shame if they just fell flat this late though, hopefully they battle and at least give themselves a chance..
