This pretty ends his tenure w/ NE, no? Butler plays 98% of all the snaps throughout the year and is limited on the field tonight... I didn't get this at all... Even if they're game planning to have heavy nickel w/ 2 big CB's, you still used Butler in 98% of the snaps throughout the year so obviously you game planned with him... To start Rowe, ok... but to sit Butler is a head scratcher....

They were saying having a safety on the slot receiver really cost the Pats tonight ... Butler could a really helped there cause... Man, it's the last game of the year, I would save that discipline for week 1 of the season...

Just read an article that says the decision to bench butler for the entire game is one of the worst coaching decisions in SB history. They say it's up there with 1) carrolls decision to throw it instead of run lynch and 2) Atlanta's decision to keep throwing the ball when they had the lead.

I would tend to agree with author of that article.

Heh. The irony is that that author fucks Butler AGAIN, by not giving him his props for one of the greatest plays (read and recognition) in Superbowl history.

Belichick let his hubris get the best of him. Butler should've been in that game. He clearly did something to piss Belichick off and he felt like he could still win the game with one of his best defensive players on the bench.

Just read Brandon Browners tweets on this matter. He says BB's decision to bench butler cost the pats the game. The fact that Rowe had no idea he was starting until right before kickoff makes no sense. Also, Gilmore said he found out butler wasn't starting when everyone else did... When he didn't come on the field to start the game.

Butler played 98% of the defensive snaps this year but now... Right before the SB is gonna start you decide "it's better if he doesn't play ONE snap?" The defense then goes out and gets torched for over 500 yards (I think that's the most ever given up by a BB team), they can't off the field on third down and the guy who replaced butler was getting lit up all over the field...

Yeah... I'd say that was a "bad decision'.
