I didn't see this interview when it was on television and I'm surprised that I missed it before now on youtube, but in case you have not seen it Seth Davis sat down with Coach Olson and did an extended interview in November. It is really great to see Lute talking about his coaching life and influences. He touches on his time at LBSU, his rivalry with Tark and his friendship with coach Wooden in the first two parts. It is almost magical to see Lute's face light up when he talks about some of his favorite UofA players, such as Sean Elliot and Miles Simon, and a bit sad to hear him talk about reaching out to Gilbert Arenas during the last few years without a response in the third part.
In the fourth and fifth parts he talks about what he is doing these days and about what he misses about the game. He also gives a bit of insight into his mindset when he had his stroke and was forced to step away and then briefly touches on what he thinks of this year's team. The interview was conducted before the season started, but Lute's evaluation was spot on about TJ McConnell's influence and what it would mean to this year's team.
Sometimes it is easy to forget how great of a man he is, even though it's only been 7 years since he was last on the sidelines. Happy to see that he is in good health and spirits.
