7 years 8.5 per

@ age 31 he is on the decline. lets be real the rangers are paying for the first 4 years not the last 3. really though what other choice did they have? they had to make the move and then deal with it years from now.

Yeah it's kind of a tough contract for Ranger fans to swallow, but the team's hands were a bit tied. They don't have an immediate replacement, it's tough to ignore what he has done for them, he's one of their most popular players. Depending on what happens with the cap that contract could look real bad in 4-5 years.

Most reports I've read seem to think the Rangers got a bargain in terms of what the cap could be.

It's def a past success contract but agreed the Rags hands were tied with this one.

I think its a solid deal for them. They guy has been saving their butts for so long and is always a Vezina candidate year after year.
He won't play 7 years like Cup pointed out, buts its a deal that they had to make.

was hoping that he would reach ufa and the islanders give him some insane contract that the rangers would be forced to match

Sather probably was thinking the same.
Isles or even the Flyers. I think they would have thrown a ton of money at him.

How often do large goalie contracts work out? I personally think he got paid way too much, especially for someone who will be turning 32 before the new contract kicks in. Not saying the Rangers should've considered trading him or letting him walk, but I don't think any goalie in the league today should be making more than $6.8 million.

His stats haven't even really started to decline TBH, he was stellar again last season.

This year, his numbers might seem a bit down, but that's because the Rangers sucked in Oct.

Henrik Oct: .908
Henrik Nov: .924 <-- Right back where he always is.

its a good contract for NOW. hes one of the best if not the best goalie in the game. frankly i dont think any nhl player outside of sid and ovie are worth that much.
