Basically you can tell when someone is going for a knockout shot. The ear hole hit is malicious. That was not.

I've long said they need to give the officials some leeway (subjectivity) and not let it be so objective (black & white). There's plenty of 'gray areas' to this dayum targeting rule … and the auto-ejections are just ruining games.

It's BS and needs to be relooked at by the Rules Committee. Sooner or later there's gonna be enough to make them revamp it … if not, already.
