Assistant U of L football coach arrested for DUI
A University of Louisville assistant football coach was arrested over the weekend in Shelbyville for allegedly driving drunk through a construction zone.
Tight ends coach Chris Klenakis, 50, was charged about 1 a.m. Sunday with reckless driving, wanton endangerment, DUI and possession of alcohol.
He told U of L head coach Bobby Petrino about the arrest Monday morning and has been placed on administrative leave, the school said in a statement.
Klenakis was swerving on Interstate 64 West, almost striking a barrier wall multiple times and driving though a construction zone where several employees were working, according to an arrest citation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
Klenakis refused to cooperate and nearly walked in front of a truck before deputies grabbed him while he was doing a field sobriety test, the citation says.
His blood alcohol level was .165, more than twice the legal limit in Kentucky. The sheriff's department said multiple empty beer cans were "crushed up" in the passenger seat of Klenakis' vehicle.
