I think we are seeing a bit of gamesmanship from both sides.

Kirk isnt going to come out and say, I want to be here the rest of my career because it weakens his stance when they start talking hard numbers.

The team has to at least pretend they are willing to move on without him because they dont want to be in a situation like Dallas was with Romo... basically we have no other option.

And yes they do have other options... just not any really good options. For every Giants game where Kirk threw the game sealing INT, there is a Bengals game where Kirk put the team in a position to win, and another unit of the team botched it.

Its going to come down to where the team thinks we are with or without Kirk. He is going to get paid. And never under estimate the GM's obsession with draft picks. You can bank that the idea of letting Kirk walk and taking the comp pick we would likely get will factor in a little bit as well. IF they tagged Kirk and told him to go figure out his value, and we got offered a 1st and a 2nd... I think SMGM would take that over resigning Kirk.

Is there a controversy? Aside from a team making the Skins an outrageous which I guess won't be necessary as he under no contarct at present or soon to be. I can't really see Scotty Mac letting Cuz walk. Scotty Mac can hem and haw and talk that not wanting to put too much of finite funds into a single player. Or procastinate in hopes of some miracle or whatever falling into his lap. At this point though its gonna come down to whether Cuz buys Scotty Mac a nice dinner or not and how much vaseline Cuz lets Scotty use before, well, you know.
The Skins braintrust gambled and lost back when they franchised Cuz the first time. Though I don't blame them, It was or seemed to be the right move at the time.

I just wish all the BS, both the habitual and the newly forming, would stop. Namely...........

A) Claiming Cuz is an elite or top 5 QB.

B) The bending over backwards trying to defend/justify what was simply a bad game by Cuz. Going as far to blame other players/units or placing more blame on them than they don't deserve.

C) Claiming Cuz has made those around him better.

D) Shark's notion that Cuz is too good for us, the Skins fanbase and the Skins team. Which is the strangest one of all.

Has he made strides? Sure, w/o question. Do the Skins need improvements in other areas of the team? One could argue they need improvement in every other area of the team ona player by player basis with Trent being the most obvious exception followed by Scherff being an exception.

Far as the defensive improvements go. If Scotty Mac doesn't setriously updrade or at least try to upgrade at multiple positions on that side of the ballvia the dfraft as well as FA. Whatever mojo he had may officially be gone now.

Damn, you got your panties bunched up that much after a simple observation. :pound:

If a team is willing to give up that much for a QB it kinda tells me he's a high level and POTENTIALLY elite player.

Maybe it wouldn't be to wise to let a signal caller like that go?

There is no doubt in my mind that Sunday's performance has tipped some of you and that's understandable. It's still fresh and his inability to come up big in the biggest games is in fact a factor. But again this is a no-brainer, as So Cal says contracts only go up, in 3 years this deal won't look so bad as the cap and QB salaries increase. Kirk happens to be up next, the deal will in fact be Luck sized and it probably should be. Again what other option does the team have?

Logical thought + Redskins football = Error in processing.

Despite the Carolina, Arizona and NY games, most teams would be out right stamping the resigning as a must happen no brainer at this point. Yet we are the Redskins. Which means that the fanbase will always have those one or two thousand that think... well this guy isnt good enough. And a front office that despite all he has done, will always be looking for the flashy move. IF COusins had been drafted in the 1st round instead of the fourth, Dan Snyder would have stood up on the table for the long term deal last year. Now I think they will try and get a long term deal in place, but I also think they will try and lowball Kirk again and thats going to be the whole drama in this thing. I dont think the tag should even be in play at this point. We either need to sign him long term, or move on.

No we are not the Redskins - they are the Redskins at least in terms of the organization. As fans we don't decide any of this & in cases like this Thank God!

Not sure where you get this idea about the tag not being an option - pure speculation. Yes there have been some mistakes made recently, but this organization has also made some good moves. Let's just let this play out & see what happens. I would guess that whatever factors come into play in this decision don't have a lot to do with the thoughts of fans and the media. In any case - we have no true idea about the thought processes of either the Redskins FO or Cousins and his agent. For all we know this may work out well & both sides will come out of this satisfied (won't likely be the case for fans many of whom are never satisfied).
